Why do I have that Avril Lavigne song in my head... "So much for my happy ending..."?

If Castela is very lucky, her way of learning the truth about storybook stories will be gentler than Atsali's way of learning about adventure stories.
The stories don't always tell you everything, dear child.

It's a good first try Castela, but you need more practice.
Also real life is seldom like story books.

Pickle is improving on her disguise but she will also have to work on controlling her feelings. It 'looks like here control is slipping as she gets excited.
She's been listening to Sali too much. But she deserves her dreams as a child. Eventually the world gives everyone a wake up call but not until later in life.

Anyone around my age remembers that most fairy tales were cautionary - Little Red Riding Hood, anything by the Brothers Grimm before Disney candified it, Snow White and Rose Red, etc. Quite a few ended with the equivalent of "and the big Bad Wolf ate her all up."

Characters this sweet need to come with a warning label or something... I just dumped two tablespoons of Wapsi Square in my tea to sweeten it!!!
EDIT: Can you imagine what's going through Phix's mind as Castela is saying that while Phix is seeing the reminder of previous chapters of her (Phix's) story behind Castela? Don't crush little Castela's dreams Phix... remember, you just told Monica and Shelly to strive to be better than you...

I love Castela, but that last panel is one of the creepiest things I have ever seen.

As long as she's not allowed out until her diction is up to acceptable standards I believe there will be enough time for her to learn how to do morphing glamour properly.
(Now repeat after me, "Sammy Snake Says Say Sssss.")
(God, I can still remember that phrase.)

As noted in "Witches Abroad" by Pratchett, you can only 'live happily ever after' if you don't live for very long.

Six sexy Siamese sailors sailed the seven salty seas.
Two toads tottered tipsily to Tottingham town Tuesday
Round the rough and rugged rocks the ragged rascals ran.

More like a bunch of genre savvy people.
I like to hope for the best in fiction, but I'm often disappointed.

So standing in front of Phix's wall of skulls (we've established it's wallpaper or something similar, not an actual bunch of dead people, right?), the innocent happy child talks about story books always having happy endings. If that doesn't choke Monica and Shelly up and bring tears to Phix's eyes, they're a HARD bunch.

Kiddo, you just asked about happy endings in front of a wall of skulls.
