The trees have started blooming in the last two weeks or so.
I have pics of an i-don't-know-what-it-is up the road that's already dropping petals,
the flowering willow across the street has just hit what looks like maximum bloom
and some dogwoods around here are in nearly full bloom, while others (like that one in the Square) are still just beginning.
There are other trees that aren't quite so showy
and the daffodils are almost over

Looks like a redbud, or a forsythia...
More and more like a violet pinky forsythia...
Though my mother used to mess with the fertilisers and make our yellow ones turn colours, so maybe?

Each bloom is darned near the size of a tulip...

Not all violets are violet
...and sometimes leaves aren't green

In honour of the illustrious holiday today:
I may have posted this one before, but it's so classic.
Back in 1979, when Fairport Convention broke up (until 1985) the band were staying with friends in Oxford.
March 31st, Dave Swarbrick, Simon Nicol, and some others stayed up late solving the woes of the world with the aid of a bottle of Scotch.
Simon wandered next door to the house where he was staying, while Swarb and his host and others opened another bottle of single-malt inspiration (or two).
Simon woke some time the next morning, and remembered three things.
{A} Swarb, with visions of becoming a gentleman farmer (that lasted real quick) had bought a farm in Scotland.
{B} An American fighter jet had crashed in Scotland very recently.
{C} What day it was.
So a tap was rigged to a phone and run to a stereo downstairs, and Simon called next door and impersonated a Scottish policeman.
First he gets Swarb's wife (one of several - collect the set). She runs upstairs to wake Swarb, then runs next door to relay the horrible news.
It''s said Swarb's wife's is the loudest laughter heard at the end.
(As the label on
The Cropredy Box says - "Warning: Contains Explicit Swarbrick". There are a whole lot of "F"s near the end. I would say this is NSFW.)

aAhhh, then I know exactly what it is...it's an Ann Magnolia Tulip. The pictures you posted made it look like the blooms were small.

That's not unusual for that altitude in that area, though.
One of my daughters in Seattle told us that the ski lodges in the area didn't get enough snow to open at all this winter. That'll be tough.

I told the snow what you said... Do you know what their response was?
IT CALLED FOR REINFORCEMENTS!
(We're expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow between now and Easter... with some freezing rain tomorrow, as well...)

Only the first is that tress - the other pink ones are others.
I couldn't get really near it, because it was quite a ways into the lawn and i didn't want to trespass, so i used the long lens to shoot it, which flattened the perspective quite a bit.
