Ah A contents listing - i do believe it's "Letters from Laura" by Mildred Clingerman, originally published 1954 in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, in Vol 2 of the SFBC treasury.
That looks like the one. Sheesh! I've -read- devoured far too much science fiction over the years.

Well, not in an intrinsic sense--I only meant that I had so many old stories floating around that I can no longer reference them properly, to remember which is which and where it may be found.

I can usually make a good stab at where i recall something from - often (as in the case of "Letters from Laura") good enough to start me off on a fruitful sense.
