When i was six or seven, we'd visit my grandmother in Berwyn, and ride the El into Chicago proper to do things like the Museum of Science and Industry.

Dad would point out tubs of sauerkraut and pickles maturing on back porches.

It is an attractive skyline. This summer I visited a first cousin, once removed, and her husband in Minneapolis. They had recently moved from a place out near Chisago City to an apartment near U of M (and Dinkytown!). Great view of the Stone Arch Bridge and the new Viking's stadium.

In general, modern Koreans don't bury their onggi. Access to modern refrigeration kinda makes it not necessary...at least, that's what my Grandmother told my Mother on a long ago visit(she still lives in I think Gangnam part of Seoul)that only traditionalists still do it, though most still use onggi over glass jars.
Personally, if I found a potter here that could make them, I'd never use glass again...black bean paste...red pepper paste...soy pickled scallions and garlic...

Mother only did the burial thing once. She said sea pressure(I think she meant with respect to sea level) and temperatures in the Midwest aren't good for that.
She uses a decommissioned freezer, and only lost one onggi, due to her using thai fires(she did not know that that's what they were) in a smaller one, which prolly was thinner.

My Grandfather and DziaDzia used to make sauerkraut in old Vlasic barrels.
