Jabbewonky, Atomic, and Boxilar awesome! I am really impressed with Boxilar's sketch.

I always said that forum has some of the most artistic people in it.

I decided to try inking my Phix sketch. I had to dig for my pens. It's been awhile.
I think I like the pencils better.

Lovely, Boxilar! I enjoy pencils much more than inking, because (at the moment) my inking isn't very good. I simply haven't sorted out how to trace my own lines... sigh...

Pencils are much more fun because I can move the lines around to suit and get more of what I'm aiming at -- but then it goes to pot when I scan! Sigh, again. Lather, rinse, repeat, cleanup in GIMP....

Of course, sometimes, it comes out looking good!

So -- keep at it!

Oh, since I'm posting, here's a little treasure from Katie Rice's blog, Funny Cute. Due to link rot, I can't point directly to the source on her blog, but I have a copy! Right Click, View Image to see all of it. Great stuff.

Boxilar's wonderful Phix drawing

I am at a loss... I finally took the time to do a video montage of the Phix/Nudge chase, using VideoPad as my video editor, as was suggested by someone else earlier. The .avi file it compiled plays fine on my computer. However, when I try uploading it to YouTube, it seems to truncate the first 15 or so seconds of the first image, while retaining all the music, so that my images are now offset from what they were supposed to be, completely wrecking the timing with the music (2½ hours of video editing for naught! GRRR! )

Has anyone ever come across this problem before?

On the other hand, it is not entirely inconceivable that the problem reside with playback on my computer... While I have plenty of memory (8GB) and a decent enough processor (AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core processor), my video cards are rather old and only have 256MB of video Ram on them... so I sometimes have difficulty playing YouTube videos, regardless of the browser I use. Even when I have my Windows 7 set to Windows Basic theme.

Before I post it publicly in this forum, I certainly would like to have someone double-check this for me. Would someone have time to do a test for me? If someone PMs me, I can send a link to the YouTube video, as well as a Dropbox link to the original .avi file, for that person to compare the two.

Holy Crap! Jabberwonky, that is pretty damned incredible. Thank you. I guess I'm going to have to overcome my unholy fear of digital art and take the plunge. There's a lot of useful discussion in this thread that I'll try and decipher.

Thank you for the kind words. I think your end of is the incredible part of it. (I keep telling myself that I'm going to start to practice drawing but can't seem to find the time.)
As for going digital, just jump in and do it. That's how I did it. Started with Paint and worked up from there. I recommend G.I.M.P. to start with. There's links to it in the forum here (I shoulda rounded them up before I started to write) and find Atomic's great tutorial. I know they are both linked not too far back near the Pratt and McBride colorings.
Be warned, if you're like me, you will HATE your work at first. (Looking at your Phix, I know I could have done the wings better...might work on those some more) Keep going, don't show it to anyone if you don't want to, and make a regular practice time. There are a lot of good critics and kind critics here in the forum to help and give hints. That will help a lot more than you might think.

I'd like to help, but don't have much experience with that new-fangled video stuff. I think Shadowinthelight is our resident aficionado. I tried to make a 'Movie Maker' presentation with the Shellynx arc and ran into the sound coming un-synched(?) as it went along. I had a friend make a video a few years ago that did the same thing. So it seems like it's a problem that happens.
I have made a couple of rudimentary vids with Muvee. It's an automated program, you give it pictures and music and it does all the fiddley bits. Not academy material, but it's a lot easier. (For the lazy folks) It's also a pay for it program...(coders gotta have ramen)

LW, you can't dismiss any possibility. In all my recent video stuff I found out one of the many programs I tried along the way corrupted my installed video codecs. Can't really search for answers right now since I'm out of the country with only occasional wifi access but try changing the codec used to encode the AVI. I used x264 for the 8 bit video before uploading to Utoob.
