Greg once more stared at the table- once more the food disappeared and a stage took it's place... but this time, the stage took on the appearance of a rough board floor in small scale with hay in various corners. In the center was Buck and Katherine, Buck in a western yoke shirt, Kathy in a red checkered 'Daisy Duke' top and both with 'bath tubbed' Wrangler jeans- that is, slightly over-sized brand-new wranglers where they put them on and dipped in a bath tub full of water as hot as they could stand it, then wore the jeans intil they were dry... the result is a pair of 'painted on' jeans. Buck sported a broad black Stetson while Kathy had a similar Rodeo King XXXXX felt, and both wore Olathe tall boots- an unseen band struck up 'Rocky Top' and the two began by clogging in a furious fashion before doing a fancy cyclone around the floor in two-step fashion. The motions of the two were totally polished, the joy of them both perfectly evident- and the band sounded like Steve Martin was on banjo with Vassar Clements on fiddle.

Chicgeek's lip lifted in a smile as the ethereal figures of Bud and Kevin danced, and she hummed along softly. "Ah, the classics." The smile became a full fledged grin as the next ghostly duo took the stage to Rocky Top.
"You know, I've started perusing those fan fiction links. Haven't gotten too far, yet. But I've read just enough to imagine Phix and the soldier taking their turn at that, as he belts out "Wild Thing.'
'Or, on a different note, a young Monica. Freed from the horror of the mental institution, on her own. Intoxicating, terrifying, freedom, the club lights flash, the music's loud, and as she's swept up in a dance,the music plays just for her." The ones listening can almost, almost see a figure dancing with intensity and abandon, under a spotlight, as Chicgeek softly sings a line. "See that girl watch that scene, diggin' the dancing queen."

*cues loud screech of a record needle being dragged off an album*
*Hands the mike over to jwhouk*
That scene instantly sputters out, and Chicgeek looks abashed. "Sorry? It just seemed to fit Young Monica."

The Sarge whips the walkie talkie up to his mouth and bellows "Earworm repellant, DROP NOW NOW NOW!!!!" as the sound of a low-flying A-1H Skyraider begins to shake the building...

Glytch surveys the suddenly lively scene, smiling. "Well, that worked in an unexpected manner. Good thing I don't know this particular earworm."
Sometimes, not being able to catch every reference thrown out has some advantages...

Dave chuckles. "Yes, youth and innocence has its advantages. I'll bet that you've never even been exposed to the concept of such a thing as bubblegum music." He wanders away, whistling innocently.

Glytch narrows his eyes at Dave and resists the urge to google this 'Bubblegum Music' he spoke of.
"You know, I've already been corrupted by your puns! I make one at least once a day now." Glytch called after Dave. D'ya really have to cause more damage?"

No pun with bubblegum reference, more of a term for "sugary pop music" songs like the one that even mention of sent jwhouk into convulsions.

And "earworm" is a term for a song or tune that gets stuck in your head and you cannot get rid of it.

Yeah, I know. What I was saying is he's already turned me into a minor punster. Now he's trying to get me to google earwormy music that sounds, by the name alone, dreadfully and atrociously happy.
I listen to stuff like AC/DC and Warrant (Cherry Pie, anyone?) which can be happy, just not... "sweet saccharine nightmare" happy.

The Nordic Foursome is how I keep from having any song get stuck in my brain. Something ends up getting stuck, and all it takes is, "IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND, I'LL BE FIRST IN LINE..."

I use either the Super Mario world 1-1 song, Ezio's Family from Assassin's Creed, the Skyrim title song, or the Fable theme song.
They all seem to work fairly well with me.

Gyrre laughed triumphantly as the device he'd been fiddling with's display finally stabilized. A three-dimensional display of light showed number of blue segmented spheres floating. Each sphere was connected to one other sphere by a green line, some spheres had additional greens lines along their surfaces. The whole thing resembled a haphazard string of pearls.

“Ladies and gents, behold the Dimensional Mapping Transponder and World Entity Zone Locator." Gyrre indicated the map display and muttered, “I really need a shorter name for this." Hansontoons let out a chuckle, but Gyrre wasn't sure if it was related.
Gyrre consulted his note book and then poked at the DMT&WZL. One of the blue spheres changed to a bright yellow. “This place breathes and eats all manner of crap that is absolutely toxic to most carbon-based life. According to my notes, methal mercaptum and giga-whatever are used as an expensive spice there. And I don't have to check my notes to know the local spice baron is a total dick."

Gyrre fished around in his satchel for yet another doodad. This one resembled a black digital stop watch with teal stone dongles and a a teal stone circle in the middle with around 19 glyphs carved on it and inlaid with silver.
Gyrre turned two of the knob dongles, then dialed an address using the stone circle. When he had finished entering the address, he twist a third knob dongle. The same teal and vantablack lines that had heralded Gyrre's own arrival appeared again and created another square spiral door.

Gyrre extended a hand, “I'll have to toss the container in since these things only work for people from my dimension for whatever reason."

Reminds me a bit of Lily Tomlin's skits of Ernestine the Telephone Operator, back on Laugh-In lo those many decades ago.
