Phoenix blood? Now where could she have gotten that? If 'blood' in this case means 'heritage', then from which side of her family? Suddenly G'pa's derring-do and larger than life existence takes on a new dimension...

Poor, poor Monica... All she ever wanted was to have a 'normal' life...

I guess any remnant of that wish is out the window, now... There's no resurrecting that wish... Burnt up, like so many dead leaves...

Drops a burnt feather in the pun jar.

Ahhhh! I see, so his Motorcycle jumping a German Machine gun nest had to do with Phoenix blood ?
Does this mean Monica is going to go all Captain Scarlett on everyone?

i'm more worried about this astral fire stuff, we have no precedence for it, every time we've seen some kind of fire it's always been either "hey let's throw a time machine at the sun and watch the atmosphere explode!" or "hey, i didn't appreciate being raped, tortured, and killed in a kiln and then turned into a golem, and since I'm not technically under your control, bam y'all are dead" basically when we see any kind of supernatural fire it's always because of some kind of extremely energetic reaction to some horrible situation.

i do know that fire is an ionic plasma, basically a gas that has a very loose bond to it's electrons, however i also know that if done correctly, like with microwaves or something, you can make cold plasma which is basically the same concept only just the electrons have the thermal energy required to break apart the bond that is holding it to the atom. this is the major working point of cold fusion by the way, in case you were interested... so is astral fire basically a crazy lanthian phenomena caused by a crazy lanthian device that is now what we would consider as cold plasma?

anyways, on a separate note, i actually had a boss once who's name was phoenix...

"Dangerous, you say that like it's fact."
""Bud, you smelled smoke earlier, right?""
"""Indeed. And yet nothing here is burned."""
"See! My fire can't even burn simple furniture, it just makes a smokey smell. I'm SO dangerous, aren't I?"

Yeah. So basically what we know of Astral fire is it smells but doesn't actually cause any damage. Not exactly the best candidate to demonstrate how "dangerous" Monica is. Fairly sure more damage has been caused by her POITing mishaps than this astral fire so far.

Yet...It's not the best candidate to demonstrate how dangerous M is yet. :) I'm sure we'll learn how astral fire can be dangerous here soon (especially if only Phoenixes and Titans can wield it...sounds dangerous to most humans). :)

On another note: I had a fleeting (literally in my head for less than 2 seconds) thought the other day (can't remember if it was yesterday or the day before). It was something like "so are Jaguar Girls like phoenixes?" and it was prompted by the fact that M caught fire before having her OBE. I just wish I'd held onto that thought long enough to say something. :)

Well, we know what some of the Titans were in charge of. But I don't recall any Titans specifically assigned to, ummm, titanic sexuality.

I expect it to be more dangerous to non-humans. That would make M really dangerous!

That would also explain why Shelly wanted to wait before going upstairs when M first started screaming.

wow.

So she's a Titan. Kinda old for a Titan, though. Most are teenagers, right?

Yeah. No telling who Monica's astral fire might have lashed out at, if they interrupted a phoenix regeneration cycle.

These revelations do put Monica into a very special light, don't they? Between astral fire, and some form of out-of-body astral projection, she's one of the few people who can exclaim "Well, plasma soul!" and be entirely correct! 8-)

All of which leads me to the question, is Arron Sullivan still alive somewhere?

Well, actually...

So at least demons think she's mighty skeery.

Vampires probably won't care for the whole concept of Phoenix's radiating pure sunlight, either.

Wow, nice dig there. That's what I'd associate with Astral Fire, but... I didn't recall M actually using it before. Now, since she wasn't aware... I'd say that was a similarly subconscious use as the "poiting out of the way of bullets". But it pretty obviously is it.

I would be surprised if it wasn't. As Yamara linked above, they radiate pure sunlight.

And every time I see Shelly's smug expression in the last panel, I start to smile. It's just so beautiful.

Poster? TShirt? I might buy a T of that, methinks. I mean, just Shel with this expression.

That's... a perfect reference. Not even just for the fire, but consider the cast present. Monica, M's Doubt, and Tepoz. Monica would have no idea that was astral fire, or what astral fire was at that point in time. Doubt, even if she and M's other demons knew of astral fire, wouldn't tell to any of the other cast members or enlighten Monica. Tepoz you just never know, he could be just as clueless as Monica about the astral fire, or his reactions "How..." & "Won't she set your house on fire?" may be Tepoz recognizing than confirming just what Monica did and, as usual, keeping it to himself for later usage.

Man, I miss the little guy. His role as manipulator has pretty much been consumed by Nudge (and to a lesser extent the GGG and Shelly of late), and since none of the plotlines really involve him anymore, he may be permanently retired to the same realm as Owen, Jacqui, and Daren.
