But May's little invention caused a hole to be formed in the middle of it all, putting a revolving door through Shelly and Monica. Shelly's door was closed with Connie and her exile to the forest, but Monica's had to be dealt with by destroying the Calendar Machine.

It sounded better in my head, though.
It wasn't May's invention, that made her a door to the demon realm, but Monica's near death experience. [*] (Or, at least, that was what I thought was the general consensus...)
However, Jin's doubt implied that Monica may have been a conduit/doorway BEFORE the accident, allowing Tina 1.0's demons to manifest themselves and chase Monica, thereby causing the accident in the first place. Had the accident been the triggering event to turn Monica into a doorway, Tina's demons couldn't have chased her to begin with, and there would have been no accident...

Furthermore, the "revolving" door aspect has to do with this: "Monica's complete loss of all that she holds dear has left her totally void. She is more than we could have ever hoped! She is our perfect revolving door." (Jin's doubt)

Shelly's "door" was opened during her own near death experience. Connie (Shelly's then host of demons) blocked it to prevent both Shelly's own soul and Tina 1.0's soul from going through. Her merging with Tina 1.0's soul is what made her a "her" and not a "them"...

Actually, the grid keeps the elder gods out... the demons were already in this world, and the grid does not affect them.

Since they (the demons) actively helped Brandi put up the grid, does that mean that they were afraid of what the elder gods might do to them, so they helped keep them out? On the other hand, demons do love order, so their motivation might simply have been that they didn't like the chaos the elder gods were causing... And since some elder gods are still allowed to travel through the library, the library is the filtering agent to make sure only elder gods with "good intentions" are allowed through... so the demons don't have to worry about those.

Ah thanks... I thought the 'grid' was much earlier in the comic... :)

Well, it was mentioned earlier in the comic a few times, but always in the context of keeping elder gods out. I just linked that example, because it was convenient.

What I'm suggesting is that the Time Forest was the first attempt - possibly by the elder gods themselves - to try to prevent demons from infesting this Universe. It didn't work, so the apo sphinxes were sent to patrol its entrances.
