First? How can I tell?

She mentioned her mother's death and the dolls several times before that, but I cannot recall any earlier mention of her profession.

By "first" I was trying to distinguish it from her later "sociopathic bitch" description.

How exactly could we possibly cheat to find the answer? Isn't any way to reach the answer fair game?

Oh. I see why, now.

I first went to when Jin had her tantrum in Cerberus Club, blowing a hole in the bathroom wall, and moved backwards from there. A few strips before the one I had landed at is when she says it (to her reflection in the mirror.)

Next, I went looking for the time Jin welcomed Shelly to the Cerberus Club by saying that. I tried several instances where we see the club, but was not going far enough back, yet. Then I decided to post what I had, and make subsequent posts for the rest, once I found them, while also encouraging others to keep looking too. So I went back to the tab I left open with Jin just before her tantrum, and copied the URL. And noticed the URL... Admittedly, finding the other two became much easier. I already knew I needed to find Jin welcoming Shelly to the club, but was drawing a blank on the other instance (I couldn't remember whether we had actually seen her meet Shelly on the vision quest). However, with the title and a quick search through the archive pages, I found them both, in the same year. In the same month, even. Yes, it does feel a little like cheating, but I don't think it is. Had I merely copied the URL from the third one and changed the ending, that would have been pretty close to cheating. But looking them up through the archives, where many of us have looked for titles or title clues to what we were looking for in order to answer other questions, I think is fair game.

So here are the other two:

A flashback to Shelly's vision quest, where Jin appears to her.

I can think of 3:

1. Of course, Monica who wears it on several occasions.
2. There is also Bud, who tries it on, barely getting it over her head, and it looks tiny on her. Brandi is next to her, in that scene, observing it all. I forget which one, but one of the two asks how Monica can ever manage to fit into it.
3. Finally, Atsali mentions Monica's 8-ball shirt when she is faced with a stretchy pajama top that dwindles to a belly shirt on her, given her sudden onset of puberty. The shirt is mentioned in a positive light, in that it wouldn't be as bad/fitting poorly as that pajama top is.

I don't have time to look for links, right now, and there may be more people who have either worn, or mentioned the shirt.

your question is worded a bit strange... at first you say *including* Monica, but then you EXCLUDE her by saying how many OTHER different characters. so i'm not sure which answer is the one you are looking for...

so i'm going to say four including Monica (various strips), three if you are not counting her... Bud when she met Kevin in the doorway the second time he came by, Atsali tried it on off-screen, unknown what the circumstances were, and just a couple of strips back, Doubt...though technically it wasn't her ACTUAL 8-ball shirt, but, since she is Monica's Personal Demon, i'm counting it... i'm NOT counting the two T-shirt models on the page that Paul was advertising his 8-ball T-shirt sales though, as they are technically not *characters* even though he posted the advert *in the strip* (Monica is wearing it on that page, too. as a repost of the original strip way long time ago...)...

Yep, those are the links to the strips I was referring to. I didn't think of Doubt, even though I still have today's comic page in an open tab in my browser... But then again, I don't think that is really her shirt, but a mere facsimile: given that Doubt is a demon, who can alter her appearance at will, and given that there is no physical portal between the living world and quantum space where the demons are that "advise" their host, I don't think that shirt could have made it across, and I doubt very much that Monica would have brought it along just so her Doubt could put it on...

You found the links, so once jwhouk acknowledges the answer (i.e. corroborates that there are no other instances of different characters either wearing or mentioning the shirt), I will gladly fade into the background and let you take the next question.

I never noticed that before. Nicely done, M. It would seem so practical to just poit Shelly some of her own clothes. Or poit her back home in the blanket. But that's one cool gesture towards a somehow long-lost friend.

ETA: So, are we done? And how do we handle the team effort? (I'd forgotten Atsali, so it's not as if I could have done it even with that hint.)

You know, that's quite funny: it was too tight on Bud, but presumably (we never saw) it fit post-sudden-puberty Atsali just fine...

Bud was also "launched" by the Mapimi explosion. With payload, too.

But it was Jin who could possibly be wearing a space suit.

When the quiz started, a little over a month ago, I read through the archives, to refresh my memory... But then, I went back and read it again, this time bookmarking comics of interest, and using the question or interesting information as part of the bookmark title... So I have a lot of questions already ready and waiting.
