@ Opus: I've been looking for a certified demo man.
Why on this good green Earth would we want to ride out an ELE in Bloomington? In my case at lest i am at lest 50 miles from any wave 3 target, at 350 feet above sea level tidal waves and sea level rise is covered. Abundant food and water, no humans closer than a mile. Nearest nuclear facility is 70 miles south east so prevailing winds got that covered. You come down here, lol
Hey, I'm just making due with what I got nearby. I'll be happy to bring my IRL team to your preferred colony location.

Ahh, but the true Zen Master of Cussing is capable of peeling paint off of a barn, or the skin off of an erring recruit, with a detailed and explicit analysis of the offender's ancestry, habits, morals, personal hygiene, and probable destination... without using any single word which would be out of place in church.

Chicgeek snorts, and fans her hand. "testosterone's gettin' a bit thick in here." She grins at the suddenly silence, as a few pairs of eyes swivel her way. "Don't get me wrong, there isn't a finer bunch I'd rather be with when the bovine excrement hits the rotating air ventilator mechanism. I respect your combat skills, old school or urban." Nods to Glyph and Grey. "But keep sight of the objective. We aren't wanting to destroy those mangy lowlifes, we want them to establish reliable internet for Pablo. Hard to do that if the office building's a smoking ruin ,or the help is injured or fled in terror. And I don't see how letting off the mother of all stink bombs-" here she looks at Dave-"is going to make them work more efficiently."
She holds up a hand. "I know what you're thinking-'well, what's YOUR idea then, lady?' and I don't have one. I'm just sayin', let's ease up a bit and think this through. We can't kill them, we can't bribe them. Seems to me the plan is to initiate a takeover of the facilities and force them to do their damn job, right? The office and their supplies in ruins isn't conductive to that. Neither is having the help incapacitated by a stink bomb that renders the work place uninhabitable." Here, the grey haired woman grins wolfishly. "Although it's FUN to think about. Maybe leave them a lovely parting gift after they do what we want."
She sighs. "Just wish I was a few years younger and combat trained. Dammit,"
And pauses as a message comes in-

Oi.

Getting a HughesNet satellite link is sounding more and more like it might be worth considering. Not cheap, and not super-fast, and the latency is too high for certain applications... but it doesn't require wired infrastructure, just a clear look at the right part of the sky.

Hughesnet is what i use. The download is 15mps, the max bandwithdth is 100 gigs a month. Price is $89 bucks a month. Ping time is the killer though, its the same as dial up so gaming and such is a bitch.

Glytch grins in a manner that would unsettle your average exorcist at chicgeek's words. "Oh, I'm not planning on killing anybody. In fact, I'm trying to avoid open warfare. Have you ever heard of the hashashin? I intend to carry out one of their favorite methods of scaring someone into cooperating: sneaking in and placing dagger and a note on their leader's pillow while they sleep, and leaving, undetected." He shrugged into the harness Greg had provided and kept talking. "They once scared Saladin into not messing with them with that shtick. I'm also going to drop a white feather, in reference to Carlos Hathcock, just in case the idiots miss the reference to the Hashashin." He knelt and tied Greg's boots on and tied his Nikes to his pack using a complicated series of very secure Boy Scout knots. "This way, their boss will be scared shitless, and will do everything in his power to make sure Paul Taylor is as happy as possible from now on. Because he or she will know, without a doubt, that someone was in their bedroom and could have killed them last night... And next time, they won't wake up."

"A FEW WEEKS!!! Gents, I take it all back. Nuke em' till they glow."
"Six?"

"Yes, Commander?"

"FIRE MISSION. Get on the external nets and find us someone who has eyeballs on this bunch of no-netting nitwits, then get the band together. We're goin' loud."

"Yes, Sir! Preferred ordnance profile?"

"Combined. We're gonna make this planet ring like a fuckin' church bell."

"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Yes, SIR!!!" A multitude of cooling fans spool up as an entire farm of quantum-bit processors surge to a fiercely joyful activity level...

By the way: the "Worst Case Scenario" that we've referred to happened out in Sarge's neck of the woods.

Paul should at least thank whatever that he wasn't dealing with Comcast: they lied to this guy about cable & internet access.

That's the one I was talking about earlier! I was just too lazy to find a good link.

Hang on a sec, I'm looking up how to synthesize methyl mercaptan without resorting to using dung.

ETA

Nothing to it, just react methyl iodide with thiourea. I can get methyl iodide by the ton lot, but I should probably only need a few grams for this job, but where to get the thiourea? Hmm, in TarnX silver polish. This should be easier than I thought...

Well, now that they're really going to have at it, we will need something more than popcorn. Take a shot for every weapon referenced or used?

And you underestimate the amount of time I've spent researching martial arts, weapons and weapon systems, and loadouts; as research for my book, doomsday prepping (A Boy Scout is always prepared!), and... "Idle curiosity."

And I'm not even military. I'm just some guy.
