If the current trend continues, by the end of 2017 we'll be in perpetual darkness.

Fortunately, the Seventh Millennium International Council of Druids, Northern Hemisphere Division, is alert to the crisis.
At a precisely calculated moment, 10:44 UTC on December 21, in accordance with ancient ritual, Council members and adherents throughout the Division will simultaneously chug a libation of a fermented beverage of their choice. This will cause the sun to stop in its tracks and begin to return north, to check out what there is to drink.
This trick works every time, but timing is everything.

(04Dec2016) Northern California Sunsets @ 4:50pm, Northerner California (200 more miles) it shaves an additional 2 mins off of that for a sundown at 4:48pm.
What fun, come next week, it's going to dip below freezing for more than a few hours each night. Welcome to the 'cracking metal stuff overnight' mode of Sunny Cali.
PS- I have some actual pictures to post up... fu-reals

Jasper looking to be forgiven for eating all the Buc-ee's candied pecans while daddy and Emmy (my daughter, Jasper's "mommy") were gone to store...
For those not fortunate enough to be able to stop at a Buc-ee's while driving, you are missing out on pecan nirvana.

Ooooh, puppy guilt. So contrite.
Last Xmas, my niece's idiot Airedale snarfed an $18 hunk of Stilton off the dinner table. He was not so contrite as Jasper (because Jasper is a
good dog), and my niece had to dissuade me from strangling him on the spot as cognitive behavioral therapy.
Of course, an hour or so later, he barfed the whole thing up on the carpet. Then it was
her turn to contemplate cognitive behavioral therapy.

That is the second quote on here in 3 days that has come from the "Deteriorata".
Isn't that one of the signs of the apocalypse?

Possibly, but not necessarily.
Some truths are eternal, some are quite topical, and some are both. I think "Go placidly amid the noise and waste" can apply at almost any time... and it's especially apt around election season.

And even more so around the amalgamated election/holiday season.

Whoa. I had pretty successfully forgot the Deteriorata. Damn.
Wasn't "
Rotate your tires" one of them?
I think "
Take off your shoes--for industry" was from somewhere else.

Yup.
I think "

That's probably from Firesign Theatre.
Shoes For Industry!
No, Shoes For The Dead!

"Hi, I'm Joe Beets."
And it's been a looooong time since I've heard or thought of Deteriorata. Probably last time was in the mid-70's or so when the Dr. Demento Show played over the radio in Houston. Good stuff.

Near my work, next to a freeway, is a sign with "Antelope" on it. The business is an oil tool company. Every, and I mean every time I pass it, I start counting down...

WOuld the ones with the countdown be considered ante-cedents - especially if you're just loping along?

This reminds me of South Dakota's
WALL DRUG. And it's hundreds of billboards. Those billboards were the most interesting thing to look at for hundreds of miles. South Dakota is, for the most part, very boring, geologically speaking. Literally nothing worth looking at for as far as the eye can see. Except the WALL DRUG billboards.

South Dakota: Where you can watch your dog run away for two weeks.

Which brings to mind my long suffering sugestion that the US combine some states together...
North and South Dakota
West & Virginia
(there's another pair, but I fergets...)
One of the benefits would be keeping the '50 States' and having room to add a few new ones. (I mean really, how long does P.R. need to keep on waiting?), and D. C. Statehood. Or not.
