(Gotta thank you for that, by the way. The need to archive-dive efficiently finally goaded me to do something I've been meaning to do for a long time. I compared the archives with the six printed collections from Lulu, and penciled in the start and end dates for each. Should make it a lot easier to flip through the books looking for an image I remember, and get a rough idea of the original strip date by interpolation.
"Wapsi Square" - up through 2/4/2005
"The Demons in my Back Pocked" - 2/7/2005 through 2/9/2007
"The Timekeeper's Daughter" - 2/12/2007 through 9/12/2008
"In the Shadow of Doubt" - 9/15/2008 through 2/16/2010
"Letting the Dust Settle" - 2/17/2010 through 10/1/2010
"Visit to a Sandbar" - 10/4/2010 through 5/26/2011
The months-per-book really changes when Paul went to the new, larger full-page multi-panel format! I look forward to the opportunity to buy the next six or seven books, whenever they arrive, to catch us up to near-real-time [whimper, plead, whine!])

He's got about five more volumes (by my count) to go before he gets close to current time.
And I'm still clueless on "I'm a <blank>, not a <blankety-blank>!"

Here's a hint: one time, it was spoken by a main character, but the other time was spoken by a secondary character.lake_wrangler wrote:That!Aed wrote:I am guessing that the characters said something like "I am a _________ not a ________."
And it's in the somewhat later years. (I'll narrow it down, for now, to the second half of the Wapsi run.)

Dammit, Jim, I don't have TIME to do an archive trawl right now!

I think you mean: Dammit, Jim, I'm a [insert profession here], not an archive trawler!jwhouk wrote:Dammit, Jim, I don't have TIME to do an archive trawl right now!

Here: they both occur during the same year. Find one, and you know the other won't be more than some months away (in either direction, but in the same calendar year).

I can top that;jwhouk wrote:Dammit, Jim, I don't have TIME to do an archive trawl right now!
I'm at IKEA, there is no handy wall plug in the Cafeteria, and Dammit Jim, I'm running out of battery power!

Re: Wapsi Square Trivia Quiz
After going through things, I determined that there have been 3,006 comics (to date, 8/29/2014), with 75 filler/non-continuity strips and 41 guest strips.
That means 2,890 "actual storyline" strips that would need to be transcribed.

*Points to sign that says "THIS WAY TO THE ANSWER! *
Ok, Ok... Last hint: 2010 is the year. I can't give you more than that.
If no one gets it (which I doubt, with this BIG hint) in 24 hours or so, I'll post the answer and another question.
Somebody please find the answer???

Meh. I just skim-trawled 2010, and found nothing.
Closest I get is from 2011; not quite up to the real McCoy, but there's Bud's "I'm the Lanthian equivalent of your midwestern farm girl with common sense! not some over-educated moron!" Thought I'd share.

Hang on. Are you sure it's not 2011? 'cause that's also when Maya paraphrases McCoy in the most memorable way: She's my daughter, not a science experiment!lake_wrangler wrote:*Points to sign that says "THIS WAY TO THE ANSWER! *

ETA: You know, even if those two are not what you had in mind, I suspect I've answered your question. So, let's have another ... and here, I'm channelling you, as I ask ...
Who was channelling Admiral Ackbar?

Oddly enough, those were not the ones I was thinking of... I've been re-reading the series, bookmarking strips that would make good quiz questions, and I haven't reached those, yet, so even though I had read them in my first pass through the strip, a month ago, I had forgotten about them. Good catch!Sidhekin wrote:Hang on. Are you sure it's not 2011? 'cause that's also when Maya paraphrases McCoy in the most memorable way: She's my daughter, not a science experiment!
Here are the ones I had in mind (and yes, I did mean 2010):
On the previous day, Jin describes her psychological problem to Monica, which Monica says sounds like schizophrenia which. She adds that the fact that Jin says she is scared has got to be the scariest words she ever heard. Then Monica exclaims, on the strip I was looking for: "Jin, this is way out of my area of expertise! I'm not a practicing psychologist! Dammit, Jin! I'm an anthropologist!"
(March 29, 2010)
After intentionally breaking her arm, Tina comes back from the hospital to Mucho Mocha. A short interchange between her and Becky, then she says she needs to go get some sugar, and proceeds to go to the basement, as an excuse to go speak to her Muñeca para el dia de los muertos (which Tina seems to use as a stand-in for Tina 1.0). As she goes down the stairs, Becky states: "Be careful, boss. I'm a pastry chef not a barista..."

Re: Wapsi Square Trivia Quiz
The only one I can think of is Monica's Doubt, when she told her she was expendable (in other words, "it's a trap, Monica") to get her angry enough to light up her eyes and face to complete the process of fixing the Calendar Machine.Sidhekin wrote:ETA: You know, even if those two are not what you had in mind, I suspect I've answered your question. Re: Wapsi Square Trivia Quiz
Incidentally, every time I answer a question, I start wondering whether I'm going to get banned from the quiz, for reaching some sort of quota and/or not letting others answer...

Nope. Sorry, I think I must insist on a better match than that.lake_wrangler wrote:The only one I can think of is Monica's Doubt, when she told her she was expendable (in other words, "it's a trap, Monica") to get her angry enough to light up her eyes and face to complete the process of fixing the Calendar Machine.Sidhekin wrote:ETA: You know, even if those two are not what you had in mind, I suspect I've answered your question.
