Sadly, yes. The first two generations of heavy bionic add-on weaponry did not work out.

Neither the bullista, nor the Cattling gun actually proved to be practical.

A line that stuck with me from a humorous article in 'Pyramid' magazine, when it was still a real magazine, was an entry about "Slugthrowers (The less said about this, the better)"

Was that the book that included "hand grenadiers" (with a hand-shaped bucket on the catapult large enough to toss a whole squad at a time)?
