My son understood sarcasm and puns from an early age. At five, he managed to outpun the punsters at the ren faire...and get me in trouble for singing...certain rennie songs at school...

You try taking the call from the TA(who turned out to be a rennie herself), trying not to die laughing while saying, "Could you please tell your son that the, ahem 'dragon' song is not appropriate material for class(no matter how flawless his rendition is)?"

"Just be thankful he didn't sing the Iris and Rose one."

Iris and Rose have an adorable warning against children listening in...they looked straight at me and my son and I hollered, "It be too late! I've already gotten 'the talk' at his school! I blame my little brother for it, but cannot deny he has good taste in music!"
Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

Hmmm. Genetics, prenatal transfer of paranomasia antibodies, hearing pun-fests while still in the womb, or early-years upbringing environment? Perhaps a combination of several of these?

In any case, cherish the result (as I have no doubt you do!)

Many epidemiologists maintain that paranomasia is a form of plague, transmitted to many members of my generation from animal reservoirs (e.g., moose and squirrel). 8-)

From the teenager's perspective there's only one thing worse than parents that don't understand you . . .

. . .

Parents that do.

Helen insisted that the previous page and this one don't remind her of anybody she knows.

That wasn't the dragon song I was expecting.

I can't tell if this whole "Moose and Squirrel" thing is a reference to "Rocky and Bullwinkle" or if it's an inside joke for New England people, or if this is yet another case of me being younger than almost everyone here :P

Rockie was one of the first ever Face-palms I was exposed to.

I miss going to Rene-Fair; I seem to just have noticed a personal deficiency in the Busty-Wench category. (Sad Taz is Sad...)

Katherine's rendition sounds very much like a combination of the exact opposites my parents where. <-- that only makes sense if you are me or one of my siblings...

OH, and lastly, don't you people ever again equate Castela Enora w/ John Carpenter's 'the Thing' 'cause well just Yuck and Foo and Icky Poo.

Peter David told of a joke JMS wouldn't let him get away with in a Babylon 5 script - Peter said "If you don't get it immediately, you will never truly understand why it is funny."

[LONDO] Bu Meester Garabaldi, I do not understand why you weesh me to do thees thing.

[GARIBALDI] It's kinda hard to explain, Londo - just do it, please?

I would have paid heavily for a Bloopers/Outtakes DVD with that sequence on it.

Just think of it this way, Glytch. Many of us here were first infected with paranomasia by way of "Rocky and Bullwinkle", where the actual source of the infection was one Bill Scott (voice of Bullwinkle, Mr. Peabody, and Dudley Do-Right). I once had the opportunity to ask Mr. Scott who it was who came up with the puns for the show, and he admitted that he'd written many of them himself.

And now, because you've hung around us here in the forum, you yourself have now been infected with paranomasia. You could blame Mr. Scott for it, I suppose, but he passed away a couple of decades ago (alas) and is immune to any justifiable retribution you might dream up.

Paranomasia, The Next Generation. It's the gift that just keeps on giving. :P
