And on the throaty voice thing, Yoko Kano. No, not John Lennon's exwife. Yoko Kano is the gal that provided most of the vocals for the various songs that The Seatbelts provided for the Cowboy Bebop anime and each of its soundtracks. You can find pretty much all of it on YouTube. But, for some good examples, 'Gotta Knock a Little Harder', 'The Real Folk Blues', and 'Don't Bother None'.

Given her coffee-related tendencies, perhaps she sounds like Juan Valdez?

When you "hear" voices such as written conversation or the daily dialogue in your mind, how do you distinguish them from voices of actual people talking in the room around you?
