And on the throaty voice thing, Yoko Kano. No, not John Lennon's exwife. Yoko Kano is the gal that provided most of the vocals for the various songs that The Seatbelts provided for the Cowboy Bebop anime and each of its soundtracks. You can find pretty much all of it on YouTube. But, for some good examples, 'Gotta Knock a Little Harder', 'The Real Folk Blues', and 'Don't Bother None'.
