Don't worry. I'm certain Atsali knew that this door has a doozy of a first step and is best used by those that can fly (or float) and carry those that can't.
All Atsali had to do is change form, grab Nadette and fly to the Library entrance
ah-hem
All Atsali has to do is Remember She Is Wearing A Talisman That STOPS HER CHANGING FORM!, remove it and then change form, grab Nadette and fly to the Library entrance ...
... She is not going to remember, is she?
Oh well, there should be something soft at the bottom to catch them

To everyone worried about the talisman keeping Atsali from changing- relax, Nadette's a shapeshifter, too. I'm fairly sure if she or her sister can transform into a balloon animal, she can come up with some way to save them. Maybe turn into a giant fluffy pillow for Atsali to land on?
Whoever coined the phrase "more fun than a barrel of monkeys" obviously never spent an afternoon cramming the little buggers into one.

We can hope for something like that... Nadette should be safe enough herself. In fact it wouldn't be surprising if ursamorphs have an instinctive shape-change reflex or two that kicks in when they fall... sorta like our own monkeyboy "grab desperately for the nearest branch, and then cling" reaction.
However, since Nadette is some distance behind (and now above) Atsali, she's not in position to be a cushion. Unless Atsali can get her wings out at least partway to slow her fall, Nadette will hit ground after Atsali does.
Nadette might be able to pull off a Mr. Fantastic / Plastic Man elongated stretch from above, and become a parachute.

As Dave noted, Nadette is above 'Sali, and air resistance would affect a pillow's descent. She could take page out of Wile E.'s book... turn herself into an ACME anvil to negate the wind resistance, pass Atsali and land with a loud THUD, then become a pillow.
Well lets hope they are both following my mothers advice and wearing clean underwear cause it looks like there may be an accident or two real quickly coming up, or down as the case seems to be.
Dear, don’t bore him with trivia or burden him with your past mistakes. The happiest way to deal with a man is never to tell him anything he does not need to know. L. Long
"First step = a doozy", "Nadette is REALLY falling for Atsali now", "It's not the falling that hurts, it's the landing" and other comments along those lines - enjoyable and appropriate though they are - this strip does raise a few questions in my mind.
1) Does Atsali know where ALL the Library secret doorways are in her area, or just this one? I thought Annexes were a bit rare: Why is there one there? Does it have something to do with Cricket and her need to get to the Library for Monica's mentoring?
2) Have we seen Nadatte in the Library before? Is Library access unrestricted? Based on Phix's Question to Monica, Shelly, and Kath, I got the idea she didn't let just anyone in. Although it might be there are general access areas AND places where you can't go and books you can't read without approval. I would imagine all information on how to make GGGs is ABSOLUTELY restricted...
3) Why is Nadette going along with this? Is she planning to wait until they get to the Library and then demand Atsali explain what's going on, or is she just being swept along?
4) Why does Atsali think Lily won't go after her the moment she (lily) sees she (Atsali) is gone, and realizes her grand-daught MIGHT just be stupid enough to head for the complex on her own?

This might not be an Annex door. This might be Something Else Entirely from the warped mind of Pablo Wapsi.

Nadette has not been to The Library before, so it's possible that she doesn't have access. And Atsali's Library "card" may be conditional or limited, thanks to the MiB's - which may be the reason for this little "doorway to nowhere".
And the Golem Recipe book is stored right behind Phix's desk.

Ask Katherine about that.

Lily may have been told to tell Atsali about the signal - whether or not it actually exists - to set into motion whatever XanaPablos Gambit may be in play at the moment.

We've known pretty much from the first that Atsali knows the Library infrastructure very well... she claimed to know it "inside and out" and that "if you need help finding other doorways I'm your girl."
Since she'd apparently had periodic access to the Library during the monthly visits from the orphanage, it seems likely that she spent her time there exploring (as well as reading of other peoples' explorations). She might even have "peeked out" the door behind Chino Latino.

jwhouk wrote:EDIT: Oh, and based on that strip, I'd say Atsali is actually 17.
Nope. I did a strip-by-strip analysis of this in another thread, but here's the summary: Since the time that she first said that she's 15 (which was just before school started), it has been mentioned several more times that she is 15, including times after school started, including a time that is only a month or two before the present. Since we are just entering winter proper, we likely haven't passed Winter Break yet. That means since the first time we met Atsali (in-strip August) only a few months have passed (in-strip November-January). She could be 16 by now, though you think someone (especially her!) would have mentioned it by now, since that's a big milestone.

I forget who it was, but a comedian was saying that yes, they followed their mother's advice and had clean underwear, in case of an accident... IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT! (The rationale being that by the time the accident's over, whatever underwear they're wearing would no longer be clean anyway...)
So for reasons beyond our comprehension, Atsali and Nadette are running to the library so they can go to a place Atsali swore she would never go back to, and was told to stay away from due to the lingering radiation. As they pass through the portal doorway they plummet to what appears to be their doom, scaring the crap out of Nadette. For a seer, she sure seemed surprised by that drop. . .You'd think she would have seen that coming. . . .
Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

Based on how things went during the first Mapimi Big Adventure, I sorta suspect that Atsali behaves as an involuntary probability scrambler when she's excited. She's a living avatar of the Goddess Of Where The Hell Did That Come From. Nadette's powers as a Seer may very well be confoosed beyond help at this point.

That would be Phlippina, one of the twin Deities of Chaos. But where's her twin, Phlippout?
Proof Positive the world is not flat: If it were, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

Probably over in Saint Paul?
