I've seen
nothing to suggest Atsali and Nadette could actually work, all I've seen is the poor Ursamorth having her crush build up further.
Can you see the future? No, you can't. But Nadette sometimes can, and she seems to tagging along here above and beyond the call of duty--especially since if Atsali and Jacob get together the situation will drop a big poop on Nadette's crush. (Assuming Nadette's not secretly a big masochist who gets a thrill out of emotional pain. Since we haven't seen any bitterness from Nadette, or even bittersweetness, I'm thinking she knows something that we don't know.
Think about it. First, Nadette is the one who set up this whole scenario. Go to the coffee shop and try to attract his eye there. Oh, you can't control your transformations? Here, I just happen to know how to fix that. I and my grandma just happens to have a spare talisman for you. Here, I'll help you test the talisman out. Now I'll help you dress. Now I'll walk you to the coffee shop. In order to help you, I will be a--how did you put it, Atsali? A "living, breathing pep-talk" for you...even though my sister made a point of telling everyone how I don't talk much due to the fact that I can
become overwhelmed with I see and wind up saying some too-honest things.
So, is Nadette
such a good friend that she's willing to do everything she can and more to get Atsali together with this guy--complete with emotional martyrdom where she sacrifices her own crush for the sake of Atsali's crush--or does she know something
we don't know? Is it compersion, or is it foresight? Maybe Nadette is a saint--a saint who sneaks into movie theaters and makes fun of stuck-up girls behind their backs. I suppose it is possible. We'll see.
Akeche wrote:What is your problem with him? I got one look and thought "Yeah, he'll make a good addition!" Cause seriously if you think crazy hair and glasses makes you a hipster... Why don't you dislike Atsali's general look then?
I for one like him, can we keep him Paul. Please?
Edit: Also, depending on where this heads. His "trouble" relating to girls about "stuff" might be something completely different than you're expecting. Knowing Paulie.
I'll admit I'm a little biased. The last thing this strip needs, IMHO, is another male character.
As for his appearance as compared to Atsali's appearance. Both of their looks say "I'm trying too hard!" Atsali's look we can excuse because we know that she is a little out of her mind right now and does much better in everyday life. With Jacob, we have to assume--until told otherwise--that this is his default state.
As for his "troubles" relating to girls about "stuff", that is so vague and universal, that it is hard to pull anything out of it. After all, don't 99% of teenage guys have trouble relating to anybody about anything? However, since I have put my wager on "Nadette profits (prophets?) when things Go Wrong", I'm going to double down and make my own baseless prediction. I predict one of these three things will happen: (A) He's going to wind up trying to pick up Nadette and ignore Atsali. (B) He's gay, so Atsali never had a chance, whatever she dressed like. (C) Both (A) and (B), with him making the mistaken assumption that Nadette is a guy, based on her boyish looks. And, I suppose, also (D) He loses control, turns into a werewolf, and has to be put on a bus to Montana for the safety of him and all around him.
There, I've made my wild-ass speculations and predictions. Now we can just sit back and see what is actually going to happen. I'll go make some popcorn.
