I get the feeling that Atsali is starting to suspect something isn't adding up with Nadette's actions. That look of total "Uh-oh..." I Atsali's face in the last panel as Nadette chugs the anaphrodesiac tea... 2+2 is starting to add up for Atsali I think...
Come on - after Nadette groped her at least up top and probably 'round back while she nibbled her ear?

Atsali isn't THAT naive.

I find it interesting that Katherine knew how to brew an anaphrodisiac...

I certainly hope so. Atsali is a little naive about some things, but she's not stupid.
Well she did have collective memories and consciousness of the entire Lanthian civilization go through her mind. . .so there's that . . .
Young? yes. Stupid? no. Naive? not as much as she lets on. . .

Is that a nibble or a tonguing? Looks more like the latter to me. Wish this comic was in color more often, but I realize the amount of time that adds. :(

I don't. Katherine is a researcher. Finding out about things important to her is what she does. I'd be more shocked if she wasn't the foremost expert in sirens and blackthorn in North America at this point in time. After all, it's not just about the welfare of her adopted daughters, it could mean the difference between life and death for her personally should she get caught flat-footed by unexpected mythos behavior.

I interpreted it as a "Good for the goose..." look. Nad got her all hot and bothered, so she pushed buttons back.
Unsure about that. Looking at Atsali's raised eyebrows & slanted mouth in that last panel, I can almost hear her thinking, "What's HER problem??"

Someone gets their tongue in my ear like this? My reaction is the same as Atsali's. It's an incredibly sensitive area for this kind of foreplay, for whatever reason.

The bare bear ears lend credence to that theory.

Actually that combination is a mountain herbal drink for calming people down. Dates from the 1700's. If Kathy spent any time in the Appalachians, or near them it is not uncommon that she would know about it.

She could have also looked the formula up in the Library. Since she's got access through the VOOP transport system, she's probably able to look up almost anything she wants. If she's still employed at the museum she must be turning in kick-butt reports on textiles and other things, these days.

She also has access to The Library. Where recipes like that are dime a dozen (and take up an entire floor).

EDIT: I like my explanation better. :P

I love how Nadette gets an "Ear-on" every time she's gotten aroused by Atsali...

Anyone else catch the difference in Nadette from the last panel of yesterday's comic (Ears on) to the first panel of today's comic (ears off) and on to the last panel of today's comic (ears on again). Geez... I'd swear Nadette was taking lessons from Mister Miyagi... (wax on... wax off... ears on... ears off...)

Perhaps not naive, but thinking like "not everyone is a siren, so not everyone feels that way"

AnotherFairportfan wrote:I find it interesting that Katherine knew how to brew an anaphrodisiac...
the orphanage might have told her how to brew it.

There seem to be some very real limits to the memories she processed during that incident. They didn't help her understand her own first experience of sexual arousal.

I suppose it's possible that the collective memories and consciousness she experienced, simply didn't include much in the way of sexuality. The Lanthians had been stored in electronic form (conscious but bodiless, isolated and helpess) for thousands of years. They were all stark, raving loonies by the time Atsali channeled them. Their memories of their own physical sexuality may have been lost, or just buried under so many layers of raving madness that they made no real impression on Atsali.

Poor kid... she got all of the agony and horror, and (probably) none of the up-side wisdom and understanding which might have come from sharing thousands of years of experience... let alone anything which might have been fun.

It's also possible that when the Library offloaded these memories from Atsali (and apparently erased or suppressed them so that she wouldn't go mad herself) whatever memories of sexual experience were included were also erased.

Kathy was smart enough to get the tea brewed for Sali which was good thinking. Now was Kathy smart enough to realize that since Sali is getting interested in boys enough to stat dating Sali will need to be on birth control? Sali is very easily turned on and her body reacts very strongly to that as well. Unless Sali has VERY strong will power even on the first date she will have trouble controlling herself. Unless she takes along a canteen of the tea.

Sitting in the movie. Jason's arm goes over Sali's shoulder. Sali starts sipping like crazy. The boy bought her an extra large popcorn with extra salt!

Then Jacob storms out, upset that this Jason person is horning in on his date.

Nadette, pleased at her good fortune slides right in next to Atsali slipping an arm around her. "Hey how you doing good movie? Loverboy suddenly remembered a dental appointment and had to run, asked me to cover for him. Hand me some of that popcorn and dont be bogartin that tea."
