In the case of Sirens, this may be from the same paranormal ability which allows the Siren to somehow "stow" her wings away, and indeed to store or access quite a lot of additional mass associated with her full-size winged form. Atsali's largest flying morph (the largest we have seen, at least) must have at least twice the internal volume (and perhaps mass) as her teen-school human form, and perhaps three times... and a huge expanse of wing. She was quite capable of carrying Katherine, both in-flight and hovering.

So, Sirens may have evolved (or been created with, or have been granted) a sort of "shifty dimensional cloak" in and around their bodies. Just as Nadette's "being" isn't all in the formal world of spacetime, a Siren's body may to some extent be shifting in and out of katanaspace much of the time... and could maybe take snacks along! :)
DilyV wrote:You have to wonder if Nadette is confused about her feelings as we are. Almost from the beginning she's shown an eye-line interest in Atsali... lately its grown into something seemingly much more involved. It could be she just liked looking at Atsali... but recent activities have shown her the true depth of her feelings. Sincere admiration turned into something much more involved? To say the least, No one is more shocked than Nadette it seems. Teenage years are indeed the most formative years of our lives... and young Paranormals too!
Entirely possible! Berdine's surprised reaction today suggests that this may all be "news to her" as well... that the whole subject of Nadette's sexual orientation might not have come up before.

I really do love the way Paul is exploring these aspects of life-experience and maturity in these characters! "Growth and change"... just as turbulent, just as significant to them, now, as (e.g.) realizing that you're a Jaguar Girl immortal sub-titan near-demigod, or that your "dead" Comanche mother is a very-much-alive sociopathic Titan.
Katherine? Welcome to parenthood!!! Castela may be six... Atsali may be fifteen or sixteen, but it appears they both still suffer from the terrible twos!!!
At just this moment, they are being the Terrible Two!

A lot of magical flying creatures are a lot more plausible if one assumes that they have a magical ability to hover in place (relative to the center of local gravity), but need their wings for propulsion. Considering how fast even bees and hummingbirds have to flap in order to hover, something with wings the size of Atsali's would otherwise have to contend with wingtips moving faster than the speed of sound - and that is a serious mess. Large birds hover thanks to favorable winds or updrafts - neither of which would have been present in that pit Atsali and Katherine were in.

(Some magical flying creatures obviously have completely-magical flight, and the wings are decorations.)

and note they are 'ursamorphs', not 'full morphs'.. there was Futurama episode where the guy can morph into anything, so he could have an affair with anyone from a multi-eyed hippo girl, to a small lizard girl... until fry & friends discovered his scam, and showed his real form was a kind of beetle!!
Remember what Berdine told Atsali when they first met - once, when they apparently only had money for one ticket - Nadette morphed into a hat and Berdine wore her into the theater...

well it depends if she had to morph back to see the film, or not.. or if she got tired / uncomfortable, and could not hold the morph.. it may take a lot of energy to shift a lot of mass out to 'morphspace' ... :)

Is there a precedent for conjured versions of name brand items
in film or literature?
In Roger Zelazny's Princes in Amber series one (Corwin?) reaches into a parallel dimension and retrieves "Kenny Roy's Kentucky Fried Lizard Parts" to snack on.

eee wrote:THAT'S the box of cookies?!? I was thinking animal crackers or smaller, but something that size with sharp corners in Atsali's unprotected cleavage? This is up there with Lily stuffing a crystal almost as large as her head down Suzy's blouse and expecting nobody will notice it due to Suzy's only head sized breasts.

We're definitely talking Hammerspace, here. I wonder how such dimension pockets came about.
As has been mentioned on earlier days, the more accurate term is Victoria's Secret Compartment.

(And someone needs to update the linked page to reflect recent strips.)

One thing we should keep in mind, re one uf da Bears Sisters 'liking' Atsali , is this lead up to the fight or flight wing popping out;

http://wapsisquare.com/comic/perfect-for-you/

Berndine (Nadette?) is actively aiding and abetting Atsali in getting her man, er young man...

Just because she's attracted to Atsali doesn't mean she isn't going to be a good friend and help Atsali get what she wants. She'd be a pretty crappy friend if she tried to torpedo Atsali's stated boy-crush just because she has competing longings.

I can't speak as a parent, but I can speak as an uncle who has had the niece and nephew over for sleepovers.

I wonder if siren clothing sizes have to include Schwarzschild measurements.

Or, being a teenager, Atsali is full of hot air.

I'd noticed that. I figured that it's a testament to Nadette's character. She's thinking, "Well, I don't have a chance with Atsali due to insurmountable reasons, but I can at least try to make her happy with somebody else!" Seeing as how there's been no sign that Atsali has even the slightest interest in girls, thus meaning that there's not really any competition between Nadette and whatever guys Atsali might like, Nadette trying to sabotage Atsali's romance life would be less a case of, "If I break them up, she'll come over to me!" and more a case of, "If I can't have her, then nobody can! Muahahahaha!" Which would make Nadette rather a rotten person.

This does assume two things, however. First, that Nadette is actually attracted in that sort of way to Atsali (whether naturally or due to the influence of Atsali's power). Her reactions to Atsali, as well as Berdine's suspecting the same conclusion, certainly seem to indicate that Nadette has a thing for her siren friend, but we haven't actually had Nadette or any of the other characters who could plausibly definitively know say that it is so. It is possible that something else is going on with Nadette.

Secondly, this assumes that Nadette setting things up with Atsali and Jacob is actually being done with the intent of encouraging them to be together. If Nadette was to be truly devious, she could make a show of being a good friend to Atsali by "helping" her along, and then quietly do something in the background to sabotage her dates with Jacob and drive them apart. I doubt that she's doing anything that nefarious, however.

We offer, for your consideration the idea that if Nadette "helped" her friend by directing hear to guys her future vision had shown would fail she could still win in the end. This may be the path her visions have show leads to Atsali giving up on guys and turning to the only person her age that had shown she was immune to her charms.
