Making someone cry is NOT the end of the world. I think Tina did exactly what needed to be done, even if neither of the parties involved have realized it (yet). Think of tears as sweat of the soul/spirit and maybe you won't be so averse to them.

While Tina sure isn't happy right now with she just did, Georgette may well be grateful already. She knows Tina didn't foist a new mess on her, but merely pulled this pre-existing mess out of her.

In fact, Tina may even be too hard on herself (herselves?) here. As Tim Hunter put it, "Most of us don't even know what we're doing until we've done it, thank you very much."

... not that "most of us" is a very good yardstick, mind ...

Wow... Called it. I must be clairvoyant or sumpin'!!!

I think Tina's remark about her info dump being involuntary might be real close to the truth. Tina is usually pretty animated when she's talking to someone but look at her expressions in this exchange over the last few strips... Tina's eyes are exceptionally wide and her face kind of blank... It's not until Georgette starts crying that Tina shows any emotion.

I get the feeling that Monica is going to walk through the door just in time... and I get a sneaking suspicion that Georgette's attraction to Monica might be a little more than just seeking a friend that's not wowed by her notoriety.

You gotta love how Tina can make folks look at things they've probably been avoiding for a long time, like lead pipe to the head.

"Damn it, Tina! I distinctly remember forgetting about all that!"

Poor Tina...and more so, poor Georgette! :( JAGUAR GIRL TO THE RESCUE!!!!
Sidhekin wrote:Yeah, I'll need to amend my reading of yesterday's "you need her".

Though for a split second I was about to conclude it referred to her sister ...

Tina's pause before declaring "Sunshine!" though ... didn't even Tina know who "she" was until then?!

... and after that triumphant realization ... a more pressing realization ... followed by declarations of sympathy and excuses ...
Well, that actually seems to fit with some psychic readings I've seen on TV...until the whole picture finalizes itself, they're just trying to make sense of the pieces they see. :)

Jeepers! Georgette must have been broadcasting like a quasar to overwhelm Tina's firewalls like that. I believe the Group is usually fairly keen on keeping the TinaVision (tm) under control, but after yesterday's "Intriguing" observation, They may realize there will be times when the how/when of the Ability may be taken out of their pseudopods. Georgette needs someone like Monica, possibly even a tour with the current circle of people who have not only have bigger roles in the world at large, but seem to take such heavy responsibilites in stride, to the point where G might end up gladly going back to her own considerably more normal life, knowing at least she doesn't have to worry about turning into large cats, goats, serpents, or bursting into flame, scales, feathers, vines, and the occasional planet-busting rage.

Most people are an open book to Tina. Apparently this one was an open singularity that just pulled her right in.

So based on the observations, Tina is compelled to help others in need (mentally, spiritually, and for all we know a few other "allies" as well. One can only guess at the emptiness of soul that could create a vacuum sufficient to override Tina's default tact and diplomacy settings(aka firewalls).

Now lay down on the couch and tell me why you hate your mother :ugeek:

PS.
Watch out for a punch to the face. "I'm sorry" will not be enough to stem the torrents of emotions just unleashed

Oh, I think this feels like the barista threw the first punch.

Cameraphones are everywhere. This could get exponentially worse.

If Georgette's repressed needs were, in fact, "sucking it right out of [Tina]", and Georgette is so shaken up and angered that she starts a brawl with a punch to the face ...

... would that qualify as a sucker punch?

Heh.

Actually, this may be the moment Tina shapes up in that department. Her words alone have hurt someone, and she prided herself in not doing that.

@Yamara:

I think it was more than pride in not hurting with words - I think that's gonna be part of the geas she is under - to harm no one; The geas wasn't limited to PHYSICAL harm, IIRC. Remember when Tina and Bud met, and she accidentally spilled hot coffee on Bud? Bud didn't even feel it, but Tina freaked out....

And these words hurt more than boiling water....

Yeah, but there's "hurt" and then there's "harm".

That's an important distinction, especially in this case. Many of the things which result in healing, tend to involve some amount of hurting along the way. Most forms of post-injury physical therapy, for example, hurt like hell for a while if they're done correctly... but you end up rather better off at the end, than you would if you stopped when it hurt.

Given Tina's situation, I imagine she'll work quite hard (and urgently) to make sure that Georgette's "hurt" doesn't become "harm". By now Tina probably has her exercise-buddy Monica Sunshine programmed into her phone's speed-dial, so I imagine M will be arriving before very long.

That said, I will be surprised if tomorrow's comic doesn't involve Tina getting clocked. I was hoping we'd get a respite from all the grimdark after the previous arc drew to its conclusion. Do we have a dedicated sympathy pain corner?

I don't think so but I can throw a couple bean bags along the wall next to the utility closet door. That should be uncomfortable enough.
