I wonder if any recent adoptees will be having fish dinner.
Re: A Little Competition 2013-08-08
If you check a few strips back it comes into context. This is not being violent, this is tussling with a friend from grade school. They haven;t seen each other for a long time and fall back into their old mode of behavior at first. It is a lot like Shelly and Owen's playing around before he told Shelly she was a bully. I don't see how it can be the same as the right cross Monica used on Shelly. Giving Shelly a shove to fall over, or tripping her, yes. But not really what she did do. It could be playfulness of two kitties goofing around but I'm getting the felling she put a lot more oomph into it than just playing.Julie wrote:LOL! Oh goodness! I needed this!Today needed to start with a laugh. Thanks for that Paul!
For those of you who are the praying sorts, please pray for my family. Today is my husband's last day at work, and he has not been able to find a new job yet. *is very worried*
As for the punching Shelly thing...she and Shelly have probably undergone a serious metamorphosis of their relationship. Remember...Shelly has stabbed her in the head and stood by while Bud punched her heart out...this punch is both M showing Shelly that she can tussle with the big dogs (or cats in this case) since she's figured out that sphinxes respond to that kind of show of strength...and it may also be M getting a little of her own back for the physical aggression she's endured at the hands of her friends when she couldn't fight back.zachariah wrote:I wonder if being immortal has gone to her head. Suddenly she's just fine jumping off roofs when she's shown no indication she can fly. Does she now expect that landing and she will recover from it so quickly she can still win the race to stella's? Or is she using the jaguar pouncing skills she hasn't shown us. And when did Monica and Shelly exchange punches in their competitions???? That's a bit much for Monica who is basically a non-violent person.Besides, Shelly has been a physical girl for a long time now (remember her "bully" friendship with Owen?). While M may not have behaved that way most of the time, she hasn't been without playful aggression in her interactions (like this one...sorry for only referencing old comics...I've been doing a re-read
)...so I don't see it as being that out of character.
Ambush questions are fun. Watching the mental impact of them as they distort, or crumble, opinions based on faulty logic.

Well, the phrase "clue-by-four" comes from the old joke about how you get the mule's attention (and let me tell you, it hurts doing it with your fist).
Shelly is tough enough these days that anything less might not really make the point.

This is just a couple of cats rough-housing, as anyone with at least two Ba'os will tell you. This is going to be a fun chase.

I hope the fun part to come will be seeing their responces to Kathryn having adopted two waifs. Kathryn is now the only character with a family at home, which is bound to start some thinking in the rest of them.Skywatcher68 wrote:I wonder if any recent adoptees will be having fish dinner.
Wonder if Kathryn will be asking any of them to baby sit. Atsali is old enough, but they may need someone more capable of passing for human (and unlikely to freakout) to front for them in an emergency, or to make sure they do their homework.

That would be fun but it brings up the question of how much time has passed since that arc ended. Katherine had a jacket on at the start so I assume it was close to the real date at the time, late January. Since several months may have passed since then everyone in the group could already know the details. Of course, that wouldn't be any fun so I hope we get to see some first meetings.My2Cents wrote:I hope the fun part to come will be seeing their responces to Kathryn having adopted two waifs. As for babysitters, not sure if I would trust either of these two at the moment based on this strip. Bud might be a good choice. Normally Brandi would be too but I have a feeling Kath and Atsali might not like that based on recent events.

Brandi would normally be a great sitter - but you're right, maybe not for Katherine's girls just yet.
Atsali's old enough to sit for little kids, watching over them as she did for Pickle. She's also at a fine age for being very responsible when she's the one in charge, and then turning into an airhead and trouble magnet when it's somebody else's problem.

There are times that I see the notebook paper and think, "Did Paul let his kid do the drawing again?"

Atsali is at the age when anything is more important than homework. She should also be about ready to get interested in boys.Wyvern wrote:Brandi would normally be a great sitter - but you're right, maybe not for Katherine's girls just yet.

Considering Sali's species, that will make giving her the old "birds" and bees talk a whole new adventure for Kath.My2Cents wrote:Atsali is at the age when anything is more important than homework. She should also be about ready to get interested in boys.
