Individually, no. Taken alone (or in small numbers) they're harmless, useful, and decorative.

You have to watch out for them in very large numbers, though. They've been known to gather in big groups, and then fuse into a huge colonial organism which achieves its own sentience. As is usual with such emergent beings, it will probably exhibit signs of megalomania and paranoia, and it will try to take over the world and dominate all other life-forms.

So, if you see a cloud of butterflies vanish into the woods, and a few minutes later you hear a loud voice bellowing "I AM THE MONARCH OF ALL I SURVEY", you'll know we have butterfly problems!
