Now I just gotta make a resume and meet the guy by tomorrow.
So how'd it work out?

A SPECTRE of disappointment
And so i have wented and seen SPECTRE.
And now i wish i had waited for the DVD release.
It's not that there's much of anything that's specifically wrong with it - it's just that there's so little that's specifically actually right.
It ticks all the boxes, hits all the James Bond beats ... and it's almost boring.
There's no real sense of suspense, no ticking bomb (well, near the end, but it's more a personal one than an important one).
The Bad Guys' big scheme just doesn't present a tangible menace that the audience can worry about - no hidden nuclear devices that will destroy London (New York, Paris, whatever), no plot to take the President or the PM hostage, no nothin'
The plot sort of meanders along from setpiece to setpiece - stalk a Bad Guy, check - foot chase through festival crowd, check get chewed out by M, check - go hunting on your own, check ... car chase with one-of-a-kind prototype Aston Martin DB10, check ... etc.
Not going into what the McGuffin is, because spoilers, but it's lame. Skyfall based its plot on something not dissimilar ... but actually made it work.
Interestingly, this film appears to take place earlier in the series' new chronology than You Only Live Twice, though it's not specifically so stated.
Craig has said that he's pretty sure this will be his last Bond, and if this is the best they could come up with to hang around him, i'd say that's prolly a good thing.
Of Craig's four films, i rate this one third - that is Skyfall far and away the best, Casino Royale second, this one third and Quantum of Solace dead last*.
There's just too much movie for the amount of real plot it contains.
And the plot it does have?
* YAWN *
=====================================
* I know Quantum of Solace has to be the worst of the four because i can literally remember nothing about it - aside from the badly directed, poorly shot, badly paced and appallingly badly edited car chase it opens with.

Is it bad that I have not seen a single one of Daniel Craig's Bond?
I believe the last one I actively saw in theatres was "Die Another day".

OK, in the background I have playing
Shadow of a Doubt, partly because I am on a bit of a
Teresa Wright kick lately.
Folks might remember
the Best Years of our Lives or
Mrs. Miniver; both set around WWII, but maybe not have seen her in
The Pride of the Yankees.
She has a certain way about her, and after being 'discovered' by Samuel Goldwyn, she went on to become "...the only performer ever to be nominated for Oscars for her first three films."
Next is to source a copy of
the Little Foxes (which is based on a
stage play).
The Little Foxes is a 1939 play by Lillian Hellman, considered a classic of 20th century drama. Its title comes from Chapter 2, Verse 15 of the Song of Solomon in the King James version of the Bible, which reads, "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes." <------ (OK, thats a trip because there's another film called
Our Vines Have Tender Grapes starring Edward G. Robinson and Margaret O'Brien, and I never knew the reference to the biblical quote until just now...) Huh...
The film adaptation stars Bette Davis, and is directed by
William Wyler, one of my favorite Directors.
Ben Hur (heard of it?),
and not only the afore mentioned
Mrs Miniver &
The Best Years of Our Lives but also
Dodsworth &
Roman Holiday....
OK, so I'm digressing all over the place but basically I started out responding to the new 007 review with the following:
I was able to procure a free pass to go see it, and immediately logged in my good friend Dennis and he too got a free pass, BUT
- His pass evaporated somehow (I think it had been filtered as SPAM and auto-deleted before we could print it out...)
AND
While I go the theatre a half hour early I discovered a really long line wrapped around the building and they must have over booked based on headcount and seats in the auditorium 'cause the guy came out and started handing out passes for another film being previewed (My Favorite American) to reduce the line pressure to see James Bond. I stuck it out and after folks lost courage or jumped ship it started looking good- but I and the last twenty folks didn't get in.
Phoning my buddy and relating the proceedings he said- "Lets make sure we don't ever buy a ticket to go see that movie...".
(damn, these grapes are sour...)

A - "Oh great, he's loose!"
B - "His destructive programming is taking effect. He will be irresistibly drawn to large cities, where he will back up sewers, reverse street signs, and steal everyone's left shoe."
[cut scene]
["S" Frantically rides big-wheel type trike to one place, then another, then another]
C - "It' nice to live on an island with no large cities..."
[Panic sets in...]
C - "Are you OK?"
Can you guess what I'm watching on Netflix, right now?

"Casino Royale" is pretty good.
"Quantum of Solace" sucks dead moose through a bendy straw.
"Skyfall" is in the running for Best Bond Ever, in my opinion.
"SPECTRE" neither sucks nor excels.
I strongly recommend that anyone who's enjoyed earlier Bond films should see "Casino Royale" and "Skyfall".

Funnier than any Bond movie, for sure.

Maybe you should count the number of legs, on that cat...

Its a Marine WWII film, right? Cause pretty soon they're going to be talking about not leaving anyone behind...
Ohana.
Ohana means family.
Family means nobody gets left behind — or forgotten.

PS- one of the best comments I ever saw the public give L&S was
"Finally, Disney is starting to draw women who look like real women..."
Oh and besides counting the Cat's legs, I'm pretty sure it's just all the buttkicking you do with your Right Foot makes the Left sock so much more tasty...

He doesn't eat them, he just keeps them in a pile in whichever comfortable place he claims.

- Tell me more about your companions. Your physician, he is called Cookie?
- No. That's Sweet.
- What is?
- The doctor. He's Sweet.
- Oh,he's kindly.
- No no no no. That's his name.
- His name is Kindly?
- No. Sweet. Wait, he's kindly, too.
- So... All of your doctors are sweet and kindly.
- No. Well, I'm sure some are... Ours is... but then, it's not a requirement. You're missing the point.
- You are confusing me.
[scene change]
- Cookies are sweet, but yours is not. Sweet is kindly, but that is not his name. Audrey is sweet, but she is not your doctor. ... And the little digging animal called 'Mole'... He's, your pet?
- Close enough.
Guess what I just watched today...

If I have ever seen a James Bond film in its entirety in one sitting, I'm pretty sure it was before I was 10 years old.
And I have a great-grandson. So that was a while ago.
Trying to think of relatively-recent movies I've seen that I thought were really good... I get
Tangled (the 2010 Disney one),
Spitfire Grill (1996), and
The Red Violin (1998).
But then I don't watch many movies or much TV.

In case you haven't heard, then, Sean Connery isn't Bond anymore.
