Well, I'm not a native (been voting here only ~40 years), but I pronounce it and hear it with 3 syllables, and the guy who writes the local history column for the daily newspaper transcribes the pronunciation with 3 syllables (LANK-is-ter, PA; vs. Lan-CAS-ter, CA, OH, et al.). Some of the more German-inflected natives might pronounce it with 2 syllables.lake_wrangler wrote:When I was there, I'm pretty sure they pronounced it as a 2-vowel noun. Then again, it could just be faulty memory on my part (I was only there twice, a couple of years ago)... I just know that it's not pronounced like your second example.Typeminer wrote:Well, I'm not a native (been voting here only ~40 years), but I pronounce it and hear it with 3 syllables, and the guy who writes the local history column for the daily newspaper transcribes the pronunciation with 3 syllables (LANK-is-ter, PA; vs. Lan-CAS-ter, CA, OH, et al.). I've added it to the "locations" part of the map I started.jwhouk wrote:Since I can't do it from my tablet, someone wanna add Origami (30 North 1st Avenue Minneapolis) to the Places map?
Re: 1st *Unofficial* DFW Wapsicon
I just added a couple more points to the "relevant locations" part of the map:
- The approximate center of the Kikai Caldera, and
- The epicenter of a Magnitude 6.7 earthquake which occurred in the same general area (about 60 miles away) earlier today.

I'm from Valparaiso. It's amazing how many ways that can be butchered.
Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

What?? The only "art" I do involves coloring inside the lines, and there aren't any lines on this thing.

Well, I gathered that much...but my lines are derpy under the best of circumstances, and being a perfectionist makes it hard to start a creative endeavor when I know I'm not going to be pleased with the outcome.Jabberwonky wrote:That's the beauty of a Munny, you make your own lines...Julie wrote:Wow! Well, I didn't have any feathers handy, a Hobby Lobby run wasn't going to happen, so some card stock and string did the trick. My skinny sharpie was dried out so the fat chisel tip was deployed. The nose and feline eye spots suffered as a result.Julie wrote:Wow! You got a bit craftsy and not just artsy! The arms pop out to make holding the body steady a little easier. Find a good reference strip for your subject and grab a pencil. Sketch lightly, the pencil marks will erase (or maybe will come off with moist tissue) if you don't like the first, second, third etc attempt like me. It is true you are your own worst critic!
I didn't try the markers that came with it... I forgot about them on the other table in the room. The box says they are removeable, so maybe experiment with them. Me, I threw caution to the wind and dove right in with the no-erase sharpie. And got lucky that I didn't slip or shake. The wings were done with pencil first, then sharpie, then some powdered graphite to shade. Some quick scissors work and a couple dabs of glue later, we have Sphinx Shelly!
