Of the two High Schools I went to (late 70's, early 80's), there are only a handful of people I have any interest in being interested in-
that said, there was a certain Curly Haired Girl from freshman year... <sigh>

I'm just trying to imagine going to high school in the first place. Literally every single person I can recall saying anything about their own experiences has been rather negative on the subject. I don't think that I've heard anyone saying, "Oh, yeah, high school! That was great!" It makes me wonder if there's something fundamentally wrong with the way schools are run, or if it's mainly just something wrong with being a teenager in general.

High school is a difficult time. You're expected to be taking on adult responsibilities, but with few adult privileges. You're expected to be building the foundation for success in a difficult world you don't really understand yet, and in which other people hold all the power and privileges. Your body is changing, your biochemistry is hitting you with powerful drives and desires and moods that you can't control (and having potent consequences if you act on them). The classes you are forced to take, are often stultifyingly boring, and seen entirely irrelevant to all of the above. You're usually an outsider when you arrive, at the bottom of the social pecking order, and are subject to the whims of established cliques. Insecurity is the name of the game.

Look up what Buffy said to Jonathan the day she stopped him from killing himself. In fact, the whole premise of "Buffy" can be summed up in one phrase: "High school is Hell."

So, no.. not a lot of fun for most, I think.

How perfectly odd- I was very much a 'socially inept' individual in High School, yet I have remarkably fond memories of it... mostly where it involved music and drama classes. And females. In fact, mostly where it involved females. Especially when females listened to me playing music... (sigh)... I'm sorry, what were we discussing?...

My high school years weren't all that bad, actually. Junior high, now... That was awful.

The school district has been through a lot of changes in the past couple of decades. When I started kindergarten in the 93-94 school year, there was the elementary, which was K-6, the junior high, 7-9, and the high school, 10-12. Within the first couple months, the new intermediate building was finished, and they sent grades 4-6 over there.

In the middle of fifth grade, I was getting picked on a lot, and because I'm left handed, I'm naturally more prone to mood swings (right hemisphere dominant, which is the emotional side), and this caused my mom to freak out. So, in typical clueless parent* fashion, she took me to a crackpot doctor who was not a psychiatrist... And that asshat prescribed some antidepressants.

I was on different mood altering drugs until about the end of 8th grade, so I was pretty much ruined by the stuff. Grades tanked, I got into trouble constantly, blah blah blah.

But 9th grade started, and shit was fine. I didn't usually do my homework, but I aced tests constantly, so it evened out.

However, in high school, I apparently was a dork who was still kind of cool, if that makes sense. And this was before being a nerd was trendy; The Big Bang Theory didn't air on TV until sometime after I graduated.

But still, I can't really determine why EVERYONE I met remembered me, even though I didn't do anything memorable.

Still, I should have at least tried talking to people. I didn't know what to really talk about.

*Not all parents are clueless. Mine (and the teachers) just wouldn't listen whenever I said I was getting bullied, or just did nothing about it, and later punished me whenever I did anything about it. Also, none of us were aware that left-handed people have a tendency to react more emotionally and less rationally than right handed people. Hell, I didn't even learn that until I was an adult.

But I just had six people see a clown wandering around in a suburb near where I live. Armed with a chef knife and gibbering about wanting to "make kids smile."

The viral nature of this panic is... Inspiring the crazies.

Please, err on the side of caution if you notice a clown or a clown-related item lying around. Run, preserve your distance. Call cops or whoever you trust most to keep you safe.

Do not engage unless absolutely necessary.

Ghetto -izing all Clowns to Birthday Parties but more so the actual Circus- fine by me. I am not afraid of them, but do dislike them greatly.

So, this whole 'Clown Thing', it's a real thing then? "Mother at bus stop had child's arm yanked by Clown, she kicked him in the genitals and he withdrew...".

High School was a drag. I felt warehoused. 'Didn't do the Homework, Aced the Tests...'; yep- once they gave me the text book, why was I supposed to show up for class every day?

Don't get me started. I'll only be too happy to rattle off tales of being bussed miles up the road while the local High School was shut down- Integration at work.

Mom's career advancement meant moving to a more Conservative part of the state, hence the disinterest compounded itself in the second half of the four year HS experience (I found myself plunked down in the Land of the Rash-Necks...).

The only time I eeeeeever got anything out of High School was when I took matters into my own hands and either signed up for classes on my own that I myself found interesting (Drafting comes to mind) or outright crashed a class I wasn't really on the books for.

If America had it's act together there would be a responsible network of trollers perusing the raw talent of the High School creshe and cherry-picking out folks for advancement in personal development. Aint gonna happen, but I can wax poetic...
