Frankly, I have _zero_ sympathy for those companies that busily claim that Budweiser shouldn't be called that. If they wanted to complain, they should have done it 135 years ago, when E. Anheuser Brewing Association of St. Louis introduced "Budweiser Lager Beer". The French certainly did it with Champagne. (They've been bitching since WW-II, but that's still a bit late)Fairportfan wrote: BTW _ if i correctly remember what my dad said, one grandfather came from Plzn and the other from České Budějovice. My contempt of USAian beer (and Budweiser in particular) is apparently genetic.
That, and Budejovicky Pivovar (probably Budějovice, from your spelling) _didn't start until 1895_. (Budweiser Burgerbrau, from České Budějovice, was from 1790, but they're still, as far as I know, screaming at the other German/Czech/Bohemian/etc breweries that they're the only ones with the right to 'Budweiser'). As far as I'm concerned, they all need to suck tailpipe and die, because they're arguing over _nothing_. Despite our courts falling over themselves to give anyone NOT American a better deal than Americans, German arguments about food/beverages aren't taken seriously in the US. "It's not beer, they use rice to make it!". (Does it have hops? Barley? malt? "That doesn't matter!" Bite me)
Hmm... I wonder if I should start a "Arguments over alcoholic beverages throughout the world" thread in the Alcohol forum?
