The story around Jet just loses me, the writing there just doesn't feel right or complete. And now it reminds me of this
actually.
I can relate to to that last panel with Kevin though. That kind of pain nearly ended me, so I'm out.
Thanks for having a fun comic overall and maybe I'll check back in a few years to see how this played out.

We aren't sure just what the outcome of Monica's talk with Kevin is... nor the status of their relationship. This appears to be at least the next day, maybe several days later judging from the difference between the clean shaven (with he exception of the beard) look from Monday to today's scruffy stubbly look. We don't know that she ended it, or just asked for time off for awhile. Still, it has to be hard on Kevin (no pun intended) going from an awesome relationship to what some are assuming is "It's over, I'm into girls now." For all we know, she just asked for time off to get her head straight. That's still going to be hard for Kevin to deal with.
You know that light at the end of the tunnel?
Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.
Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.
Re: Snowfall 2014-11-19
There's a beard, which is a proud man-carpet. And there's no beard which is sleek and functional. Then there is the Kevin Shrub, which is as ridiculous as a chocolate-chip cookie with only one small chocolate chip, right in the middle. And it's actually carob.Opus the Poet wrote:Dude, what is it with you and facial hair? I suppose it could be worse. He could have nothing but a soul patch. Even Frank Zappa had have an epic mustache to justify the existence of that soul patch.

Now I'm starting to hope we never see Kevin again just to make Thor stop complaining about his facial hair.
I don't get why somebody would go through the trouble of registering for a webcomic forum just to complain about the webcomic & declare their intent to never read it again. Seriously, why bother? Do they expect us to beg them not to go? To see the artist slap his forehead and say, "OH MY GOD you're right!! I shouldn't have done that!!" Cripes, people. This is just attention-whoring.Xero Kane wrote:The story around Jet just loses me, the writing there just doesn't feel right or complete. And now it reminds me of this

That's the point of a soul patch; it kinda makes you look like a douche.Thor wrote:I suppose it could be worse. He could have nothing but a soul patch... Like Yoda said, "Beard, or beard not. There is no goatee."
You should be reading the Wapsi Square Wiki.

Well, considering you just came here to piss and moan, don't let the internet hit you where the Good Lord split you. I'll just kick back in my spider silk hammock over here in Confusion Corner and see where this bombshell hits. It feels Incomplete because the story ain't over yet. I'm still hanging on until the ride comes to a total stop.Xero Kane wrote:The story around Jet just loses me, the writing there just doesn't feel right or complete. And now it reminds me of this

I like it...I only hope Bud applies a very gentle touch and gradually draws him in, rather than totally going for it...

Opus, don't be 'fended. Personal taste at work... (Myself, I've been Van Dyke'd most my adult life...)
Dave; I was kind of playing with the iconic stereotype, not that I have any actual experience with this. um, yeah...
[edit] - s'OK that Xero Kane feels that way, esp given the possible parallels hinted at IRL, but to bail is to leave the current arc unresolved, or at least undeveloped...

Ah, "Neutral Place". That's it then. End-Of-The-Line for the next male character. He could have been interesting, but it seems to me he was more of a left-over of earlier times in the comic, where the humour, and the one-page-gags were still more important than the grand storyline.
From there on, the men in Wapsisquare were just tools for the writer to flesh-out the female characters. That's his perogative. An artistic choice that worked quite good imho. After their part was over, they got removed.
It would be nice to see Alan and Owen every now&then, though..
If so, someone has to inform Kev' that there is no "Gay-switch"
but, why 42?

Re: Snowfall 2014-11-19
My problem is that this plot change seems to signal the final change of Wapsie Square from being the sort of story I got hooked on all so long ago (essentially "ordinary" people, both normal and paranormal, dealing with both personal and supernatural problems on a day by day basis) and turning it into a sort of supernatural soap opera dealing with symbolic sturm and angst.
I realize it's the authors right and privilege to do what he wishes with his story, but I have to decide if I'm still interested in the story he's telling. And that's something only I can do. Lately I've been finding myself less and less intrigued by the story lines and this seems to have crossed the final line. So I have a lot of considering to do.
I'll probably go back and reread it from the beginning this weekend and see how I feel when I get back up here.

How do people go out in that kind of weather with nothing on their heads? No stocking cap, no hood up. Not even earmuffs. Even a cartoon character's ears would freeze off.
Anyway, looks like Kevin has decided to hold a frigid pity party for himself. He's entitled I guess. And how did Bud find him? I doubt she'll hit on him yet. Just looking out for him I think, and she may have something from Monica to explain to him. No doubt she feels bad for him. He'll get over it in any event. Even he should have been able to see his relationship with Monica wasn't going anywhere to begin with. More so since she became a paranormal. Different life paths and all. This should not have come as a big shock to him. Though her turning lesbian may have been an unexpected blow. Not to mention the suddenness of it all. No lead in or falling out over time. That's often the worst part of such a breakup. Probably not as he envisioned things.
Even if he gets with Bud, there would still be the issue of a mortal with an immortal. Worked out for Jin though, even before she took a dive into pseudo human mortality, but she did wrestle with it before then. So who knows. Seems like Bud and Brandy would have had relationships through their long existence. How did those go? They appear to have sexual urges and desires for a love interest even now, just like Jin. Otherwise it would have been a really. really long time to be celibate.

Nope. Those big fat flakes falling signal that it is relatively warm out, in the low to mid-30s. That's hat-optional weather for people acclimatized to such weather. Also, Kevin has a hood to throw up if his ears start feeling a bit chilled. He's fine, weather-wise.KnightDelight wrote:How do people go out in that kind of weather with nothing on their heads? And of course the temperature makes no nevermind to Bud, who we have seen out in the snow buck naked when even weather-seasoned locals like Shelley and Monica were shivering in their jackets. She's in no danger of getting cold.

I've been in his place before. You keep reliving the whole relationship asking yourself "What did I do wrong?" over and over, even when it's totally unjustified, doesn't stop your brain from finding reason after reason for thinking it was.
Right now he needs Bud to remember what it feels like to be wanted by someone.

All i can say is if Bud is gonna go for it she better be as cautious as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory.

Wow. Just wow.
Always have loved Paul's work, but the sheer depth of emotion in this page just left me scanning it over and over and over again. I realize folks are stirred up by the handbrake turn that Paul's dished up over the past week or so, but do appreciate the artistry too!
Bravo! Artist! Artist!

As this progresses, I keep thinking back to http://wapsisquare.com/comic/late-teens/ ...
Whether she chooses the cautious approach or "totally going for it", she's due.
