Is it too late to pretend I was leading you on, and had read the strip right the first time around?

I didn't think so...

Although, if jwhouk had said $5000, rather than "two large", as the amount spend on a stereo system, I might have noticed quicker...
What is "two large", anyway? Isn't it either $200 or $2000 (but isn't the second one called "2 grand"?)

Alright, moving on... I will come back with a new question in a few minutes.

Two large = $2,000. And yes, I did make a mistake in saying "two large" instead of "five large".

OK, here it goes:

Q: What constitutes a compliment, in Shelly's eyes?

Note: There may be more than one valid answer. If yours differs than mine, but has a corroborating link which shows that it adequately answers my question, I will accept the answer.

Given how often you've mentioned your bicycling, I was waiting to see if you might end up getting this one after something nudged your memory.

I just didn't reckon on how utterly hilarious your uncovering the answer would actually be.

Just got home after being at work for 67 hours (a combination of working, sleeping in the rest room, or eating before working again - there was some overnight overtime involved...), I see that no one has taken a stab at it...

Here's a hint: The compliment I'm looking for is made by Heather.

Yes, that is quite ironic, isn't it...

I think that we may have gone through the more obvious questions, and now we've gone to the more tricky ones. This one seems to have stalled everybody out.

Hint: the compliment involves a comment made by a girl regarding a contrast in Shelly.

. . .Aaaaaand after posting that, suddenly those two previous posts that include another hint show up on my screen. Huh. That's the second time this website has done that sort of thing recently to me. Oh well.

If you know the answer, why don't you give it a shot?

Nah. It's fun to watch the shenanigans going on as you all play, but it wouldn't be fun to actually play. I'll leave it for somebody else to find.

What shenanigans? Did you see any shenanigans? I don't see any shenanigans... Not even any Shellynigans... :P

Besides, don't you like participating in shenanigans? Not that there are any here, of course... Or any Shellynigans, either...

Here's another hint: This takes place in one of the first long conversation Shelly has with Heather, at Darin's bar, after having met Heather earlier at the music store.

Only when they involve explosives, naked people, or ostriches. Or naked explosive ostriches.

Oh kay.... I'm not seeing it.

I've gone back through both times that Shel and Heather were at Darrin's, and I don't see anything specifically about a compliment.

I do, however, have this little exchange:
SHELLY: "You think I'm cute?"
HEATHER: "Don't worry, I'm not hitting on you. It's just a cool contrast I saw in you. You just look like you could kick the $#!+ out of most guys."
SHELLY: "No, that's good to hear from someone. Anyone!"
I'll have to refrain from the next question right away, because I really don't know if this is the right answer?

Yes, we have a winner! That is exactly the strip I was referring to. Really, I couldn't give up any more hints, I was already giving it away as it was.

Admittedly, I may have phrased my question incorrectly: at first reading, I thought the compliment was the part about being able to kick the s*** out of any guy, to which Shelly answered that it was good to hear (which would have warranted the wording of my question), whereas I have read it again since, and realize that Shelly was actually replying to the fact that Heather thought Shelly was cute.

But you managed to see through it, so take it away, jwhouk!
