Beer baiting - Was "What are some of your favorite"

Frankly, I have _zero_ sympathy for those companies that busily claim that Budweiser shouldn't be called that. If they wanted to complain, they should have done it 135 years ago, when E. Anheuser Brewing Association of St. Louis introduced "Budweiser Lager Beer". The French certainly did it with Champagne. (They've been bitching since WW-II, but that's still a bit late)

That, and Budejovicky Pivovar (probably Budějovice, from your spelling) _didn't start until 1895_. (Budweiser Burgerbrau, from České Budějovice, was from 1790, but they're still, as far as I know, screaming at the other German/Czech/Bohemian/etc breweries that they're the only ones with the right to 'Budweiser'). As far as I'm concerned, they all need to suck tailpipe and die, because they're arguing over _nothing_. Despite our courts falling over themselves to give anyone NOT American a better deal than Americans, German arguments about food/beverages aren't taken seriously in the US. "It's not beer, they use rice to make it!". (Does it have hops? Barley? malt? "That doesn't matter!" Bite me)

Hmm... I wonder if I should start a "Arguments over alcoholic beverages throughout the world" thread in the Alcohol forum?
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

In fact the Czech breweries had Busch in court and were probably going to win the judgment ... and then Hitler invaded.

The biggest problem with calling A-B's moose pee "Budweiser" is that it besmirches the name of the REAL Budweiser.

In much of the world, A-B has lost the right to call their barley-flavoured water "Budweiser"

Of course, i'm not real impressed with lagers, anyway - i prefer a good porter (Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter - yummie!) or stout - but not that over-hyped Irish toxic sludge:

(Though, i do like a bottle of Bohemia with dinners at Mexican restaurants, sometimes.)

Yay Samuel Smith's! :D I haven't tried the Taddy Porter yet...I'm just a fan of the Nut Brown Ale and the Oatmeal Stout for now...but then, I also enjoy the "over-hyped Irish toxic sludge"...though I prefer Smithwick's. :)

"From the Old Brewery, Tadcaster." Yummie.

I like the Oatmeal Stout, too - but i especially like it for cooking dishes like Beef Carbonnade a la Flamade...

Anchor Porter isn't too bad, either - abd costa less.

I also (from my two brief sojourns in England twenty years ago) developed a taste for dry cider.

Gotta be careful with that stuff, though ... it's sneaky.

I'm a huge fan of porters and stouts. Currently on hand; Breckenridge's Vanilla Porter and North Coast's Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. I really can't tolerate a wimpy beer. And I am NOT a fan of IPA's. Give me a good nut-brown, stout, porter or anything with good, strong, complex flavors and you've got a friend for life. ;)

Sadly, I am a recovering alcoholic- 12 years sober in fact. What is sad is that I made my own and was rather well-known for it. I produced a fine-finished Pilsner that any German would appreciate, made a Bitters that would be at home in any Southern English Pub and of course my Irish Stout... that was it's own category.
The Pilsner I called "Jawohl!!!", the Bitters I called "Old Home Guard" an the Stout I called "Brew-Ha-Ha". The first two were exactly what they should be- the Stout was a sleeper. Legally, were I to market it, I could not call it a 'malt liquor'. Too strong. Clocked in at 11.5% 12.1% alcohol... a "Sparkling barley wine" would be the legal terminology. Treating it like beer was always a mistake.
The label showed Lucky the Leprechaun, flat on his butt, leaning against a (rather annoyed) pig, hoisting a stein and proclaiming,
"'Tis Tragically Malicious!" Claimed more than one victim, it did... brought about the early demise of a bachelor party back in 1995. Even the strippers passed out. I was the only one upright- nobody believed me when I tried to warn them about the stuff. Two bottles and you are good for the evening... take your time with them, make them last. Oh well...
