Holy Carp! This semester in school was so crazy intense, I didn't have time for anything. Yesterday was my last final, and now I am FREE until August!
I have one more year, and then I have to do my full time student teaching (unless I am one of the lucky few who gets awarded a year long paid internship with a local school district!) - then I will be an honest to goodness real live teacher! A profession that lets me spend the rest of my life in school...

WOOT!... i've got a friend that's a teacher, too... she loves it, except for when she doesn't... and according to her, the permanent staff positions are hard to come by and fighting is intense for the spots when somebody retires... it seems that the schools would rather hire a bunch of temps and rotate them around than keep permanent staff, YMMV... then again, that's what it's like in a lot of industries now days, blech... good luck to you for finishing soon!PrettyPrincess wrote:Holy Carp! That's soooooo awesome! My son would love a teacher like you to pieces.
@scantronb: Never heard of that, and I live near Chicago(45 min away). They generally rotate through temps to find a good fit for their schools, at least around here. Certain townships need certain teacher types, and they watch the student interaction closely. When they find that "spark", they find a way to pay them if there is no budget. One gal I know temped in two counties, and four townships for four months only to have 16 schools fight over who got to keep her. Then it boiled down to how fast the health insurance started. Another got hired in after they temped in first and fourth grades, then was asked to be the first grade teacher, as the older kids resisted her style of instruction, and the younger did not.
Do you specialise in Spec Ed, primary, or secondary education, did you major in art, science, math, social studies, etc. Do you have any other degrees which might help you be fitted into a certain grade/course of teaching? As a student, I assisted many teachers, and learned all the things a teacher needed, even the required refresher courses to keep credentials current. Top ten percent was not enough to get me a scholarship, so when I was schooling, some of my courses came out of pocket. I'm currently dealing with the fallout of attending a bad school, and fighting for my transcripts so I can continue going at some point in the future.
The Adminstration setup for each townships schools require certain criteria for their teachers. Even Kitchen Staff has certain requirements. Having worked in such a school system, I do know a bit about it. The Schools in my area for example, require a bit of school for kitchen prep and health(I took two courses when I filled in for them back in the day). Do they have enough to pay a permanent teacher? If not, temp them out until the budget allows, or the community steps in to help(and trust me, they do).

Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

Re: Finals Are Done!
Congrats!!! I'm looking forward to picking classes back up this fall (and by classes I mean my usual one class per semester since I'm a weanie who can't work my job and complete more than one class at a time with a grade that meets my standards), but at the rate I'm going, I probably won't graduate until either December 2015 or May 2016. I'll have to remember to let you know when that happens so you can vicariously relive the excitement of completion.
