See if you can spot and identify all the equipment seen onscreen...

(This post came about because I got all goofy identifing a Compaq Portable III...)

Oddly enough, I just bought a DVD copy of Hackers last week for the impressive sum of $3.99. Canadian dollars, that is... :P

I look forward to having the time to watch it.

Currently watching the movie, while doing other stuff on the computer... so not quite paying full attention...

Seen onscreen: a "portable" computer - don't know the name, but it's almost as big as a sewing machine...
Apple computer, with an external Apple diskette drive
At least one of the laptops was also an Apple laptop... a far cry from the ultra thin contraptions they have nowadays... Look at that bezel! Has to be at least an inch and a quarter, from the edge of the screen to the edge of the laptop cover...
split keyboard ("The Plague's" computer)

VR equipment sure has matured, since then... (The Plague, in the basement...)
Also, I wonder if someone at Google watched that movie, to get the idea for the Google glasses... (Crash Override, when they're all hacking the Gibson computer...)

Wow, a 128 mbps modem!
And she wants to triple the RAM...

Crash Override and Acid Burn geeking over Acid Burn's laptop:
CO - it has a killer refresh rate
AB - it has a P6 chip, three times as fast as a Pentium.
CO - Yeah, but it's not just the chip. It's got a PCI bus... but you knew that already...
AB - Indeed. RISC architecture is going to change everything
CO - yeah. Risk* is good.

*(I don't think that's a typo on my part...)

Portable cassette player (to record change going through on the phone, and "never have to pay again")

Product placement: Jolt Cola, Coca Cola

I have to admit, it's amusing to see the vintage equipment, but I can't really say I know the computer equipment models.

In that kind of movies, I always find it interesting to see the kind of imagery they use in order to simulate the "mystery" of the cyberworld...

Hey, look at that: revolving phone booths!

Sounds like an Osborn portable PC. Looked like a sewing machine case with a handle on top, but the bottom face was the keyboard when you unclipped it. 6 inch screen IIRC.

Same height, less depth... We don't see logos on the computer itself, so I can't tell...

Well done, Mr. Wrangler- I'll take another peek and see what you saw.

PS- I sold 2nd hand Morrow, Kaypro (OS = CP/M) machines @ the Used Computer Store, Berkeley CA at the start of my career...

CP/M... DOS' granddaddy? Or is it DOS' daddy, and therefore (original, non NT/XP-based) Windows granddaddy?

I can tell that there are some computers in the movie. Does that count for anything?
