Ah.... perhaps a Univac 1108?
No, an old 494. Hulking great monstrosity that thing was....

Ah.... perhaps a Univac 1108?

I once used one of those to point out an error in my FORTRAN instructor's claims about FORTRAN functions. The program I wrote demonstrated that the Univac 1108 could be programmed to show that 2+2 equals 6 (and of course this is true, for sufficiently large values of 2).
Well, when Two copulate like that, of course you get Zex...

Dr. Ruth, Dr. Ruth...why not write to Dr. Ruth?

So i wrote to Dr. Ruth, who quite helpfully proposed,
I should join a nudist colony and throw away my clothes!
All that sun upon my flesh would set my libido free,
And would guarantee much more of 'it', whatever it might be.

But I didn't feel that I was quite...equipped...for such a life.

Fair of skin just like my sisters - too much sun would give me blisters!
So I think I'll pack the whole thing in....and go home to the wife.

Ooooh, yes. Especially when you're dealing with putting patches into code.

Try it with an octal front panel sometime...and yes, I used to do it on PDP-11s... and 8s. And a few Sperry-Univac behemoths... :)
I once talked with a man who once programmed using the spaghetti boards.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I have looked for it, but can't find it for now... I'm pretty sure it was Ray Stevens who had a song in which he ended up getting "that day and night, satellite, cable TV service"...
In that song, he mentions at one point watching a show where "There's this little woman, who talks real rough, and there ain't no telling WHAT she's liable to say..."

Thanks. I hadn't heard that in a long time (just went and listened to it on YouTube). I have it, somewhere in the house, on cassette. Of course, the fact that I don't currently have a cassette player that works probably contributed to my not having heard it in a long time...

I keep meaning to get myself something going, and transfer all my cassettes to my computer, but I keep forgetting to do so... Not that I have much time to do so, either...

Slow. 90wpm for me, and my mother was about 30 wpm faster than that.
Susan, my first wife, who did at least 120 wpm, used to watch me knocking out about 30 wpm, shake her head, and wander off muttering "Nobody should be as to type that fast with just two fingers and a thumb..."

It's interesting: I've been reading quite a few of these, today, and I'm surprised at how much of a tease Charlie Brown was, at the beginning... There are several strips where he plays a joke on Patty, and the last panel has her chasing him, and him saying something to indicate how much he delights in doing that kind of stuff:
(All comics are linked back to their original page)

But that's OK, she gets her kicks in, too:

Of course, Charlie Brown sometimes has to deal with some of the most dangerous questions around...

interestingly, before Lucy, there was Violet:

Also, seeing the beginnings of Schroeder was quite interesting. (Including his very first piano playing...)

Well, I better stop here, before it goes beyond "fair use"...

It is funny, though, to look at the URL, and see the actual date the strip first appeared in a newspaper...

And the mean streak goes on...

And wow: Lucy's first appearance!

And her feminine wiles are definitely already well in place:
