REQUEST: Looking for original of a page that Paul changed

Post by AnotherFairportfan »

A QUESTION:

Does anyone have a copy of the ORIGINAL version (“Supplies!”) of the 2009-06-08 page that Paul changed to “52 Pickup!”?

I apparently didn't collect it until after he'd changed it.

What Brandi tells herself to yell - the original had her shouting "SUPPLIES!"

Apparently some people - not regular readers, i think - felt it was culturally insensitive.

Culturally insensitive... That's Weird Al, all right.

I thought I had the original... but I don't. He changed it shortly afterwards - and it's not in the book (In The Shadow Of Doubt), either.

I could easily mock it up, but i'd rather have the original.

I'm still a bit miffed about that, but not my webcomic.

For what it's worth, I grew up with the Orient being China, Japan, Taiwan, SE Asia, Indonesia, Tibet, the Philippines, and thereabouts. India wasn't Oriental in this list, it was India. And yes, Oriental Rugs came from Iran, but that was a special case -- Oriental (the East) vs Oriental (East Asia).

Now, it's "Asian." OK -- Turkey is in Asia and so is Thailand, but Turkey wasn't on my Oriental list. That is, ethnically, Thai, Han (Chinese), Japanese, Mongol, Malay, and so on are Oriental (Mongoloid), but not Turk, Armenian, Dravidian (India), and so on who are Caucasian (Caucasoid).

So -- Have I missed the boat here or is there really some other-than-political advantage to NOT differentiating East Asian from West Asian?

Sounds as though it has all left you quite disoriented.

Of course, the problem with terms such as "the Orient" or "the Far East" is that they're very relative terms. To somebody in Siberia, "the Orient" could be "the Southwest". Terms such as "South-East Asia", on the other hand, defines a location in more absolute terms. Perhaps with greater communication going on between people of very different backgrounds in far-flung parts of the world, less relative terminology makes things less confusing?

Whatever it is, it broke the site, as I see a giraffe overburdened with kitties.
Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

How about another request: Does anyone know if a higher resolution copy of the original Wapsi skull gear exists and if so does anyone have a copy? The image from the Redbubble product previews is larger but whatever Pablo used to do the vector trace noticeably simplified the details.

Well, feeding it to the incredibly inappropriately named waifu2x command line tool to scale it up four times produces this... close enough?

Thanks, I still wish to see the original but that's pretty good. It's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot closer than the other one.
