Well, it's a big planet and lots of people haven't seen snow.
Truth is, out here in arid California, you need to really be up in the Sierra Nevadas to get real Snow (w/ a capital 'S').

That said, I still haven't tried to puzzle out what's the 'down number' in the example, but truthfully you'd need some hands on time w/ dice, and Whats Up when What Else is Down brought to your attention (the further assumption being that all dice have the same number orientation... do they?). I'm now going to be assuming they do...

No, they don't, but the orientation Atomic was implying is, indeed, by far the commonest convention in traditional European and American six-sided dice.

...wait do people seriously use the down numbers in games or something or is this just a random trick that can be done with standardized dice?

I’ve never even thought about “what number is on the bottom is this number is on top”, nor have I ever heard of such a concept from someone else until now.

Drilled dice, where the number spots are recessed holes in the surface, are not "fair" dice because the weight of material removed (usually plastic) is not even on each side. The one spot has 1/6 the weight removed on the six side, for example, making it slightly "loaded".

That said, professional, fair dice are solid with painted/inked spots on each side. And (drum roll please), the total of spots on opposite sides always equal Seven!

So, an 8, 3 and 5 showing, means 4 and 2 are down respectively.

Assuming standard dice, if five and three are up then two and four are down. (Any side, plus the opposite side, equals 7.)

I knew opposite sides all equaled the same number. But I was thinking it was 6.

That actually wouldn't work - what goes on the side opposite the 3?

The numbers 1 to 6 total 21. There are three pairs of opposite sides on a cube, so if each pair is going to have the same total it must be 7.

I'd never paid much attention to that. I'd just randomly decided to memorize what numbers were opposite each other on a six-sided die, and found it to always be one more than the total number of faces on the die.

I'm not quite sure, but I think the same is true with a d20. There's certain kinds of dice where that doesn't hold true, though.

We used to have some six-sided dice where, if you picked the correct two of the four, you were guaranteed to always roll 7 or 11. On one of those two the opposite-sides total was 6, and on the other it was 12.

(We bought them as a gag gift and then kept on forgetting to deliver them. I finally threw them away, still in the unopened package.)

Determining the opposite-sides total on the most common shape of 4-sided dice, is left as an exercise to the reader. Just don't get mad, throw the things on the floor, and stomp away. For that matter, if someone throws them on the floor, walk very carefully until they are found and picked up.

I first hacked this router and placed my malicious code on it. When you entered in the Internet, my trojan was installed on the operating system of your device. After that, I made a full dump of your disk (I have all your address book, history of viewing sites, all files, phone numbers and addresses of all your contacts). A month ago, I wanted to lock your device and ask for a small amount of money to unlock. But I looked at the sites that you regularly visi t, and came to the big delight of your favorite resources. I'm talking about sites for adults. I want to say ?you are a big pervert. You have unbridled fantasy! After that, an idea came to my mind. I made a screenshot of the intimate website where you have fun (you know what it is about, right?). After that, I took off your joys (using the camera of your device). It turned out beautifully, do not hesitate. I am strongly belive that you would not like to show these pictures to your relatives, friends or colleagues. From now on, I advise you to use good antiviruses and update them regularly (several times a day)! Don't be mad at me, everyone has their own work. Farewell.
Fairly vague, shots in the dark, hoping to hit something... From the tone of it, he seems to presume I am using Windows, and did not keep my antivirus up to date.

I suppose for many people, the innuendos might frighten them, if they had something to hide. The ridiculousness of it all is how far off the port bow he shot... I don't visit adult sites, there is no toy to take a photo of, and so on...

Oh, and the subject was: "Your email is: lake.wrangler@gmail.com and your password is: friend"
The email address is right, but the password (to anything whatsoever I have passwords for, let alone for sites which I never visited) would certainly not be a dictionary word...

And in the same vein, this time, broken into its components and analyzed:
Hi, I know your password is: daniel1208
Off to a bad start... I use a password manager, which jumbles up letters, numbers, symbols, to make unique password. Never would a password of mine include an actual name...
You got infected with my malware, RAT (Remote Administration Tool), while browsing the web where my iframe was placed, in the background you got redirected to my exploitpack, your browser wasn't patched so you got infected!
Strike two: with the Software Updater, my browsers are always up to date/patched/whatever.
The malware gave me full control over your computer and access to all your accounts (see password above), it was also possible to turn your webcam on, you can Google about RAT's and their functionalities!

I collected all your private data and RECORDED YOU (through your webcam) SATISFYING YOURSELF!
Again, shot way off the port bow... Someone who might do that at times might have to worry that someone may indeed have seen it happen, but when you never do that, you don't need to worry about it... (Kind of like that saying, where if you always tell the truth, you don't need to remember what you said...)
After that I removed my malware, to not leave any traces.
How convenient...
I can send the video to all your contacts, over email, post on social network and everywhere else and publish all your private data everywhere, including the darknet, where the sick people are!

Yeah, I've gotten plenty of those, sent to about half-a-dozen ID variants that I had used to sign up at different web sites (e g. tvtropes). I use a different email address for each sign-up so I can tell when a site "leaks" my credentials. None of these are my "real" account or passwords, used on my own servers... they are all throwaway.

The sites in question have all publicly admitted that their user databases were compressed and stolen, so all of those throwaway credentials are surely circulating on the "dark web".

I do hope that we eventually see one of more of these scammers tracked down and busted. This particular scam amounts to extortion... and a few felony conviction and 20-year prison sentences being publicized, might get the message across that this is not a particularly good way for script kiddies to try to make money.

Virustotal is a legitimate site. Originally independent, it's now owned by Google. It still works fine - upload a file you're suspicious about, and it runs it against 30+ AV utilities.

xHamster is a video porn site. As porn sites go, it's actually quite legitimate, and one of the few I've trolled looking for viruses that I haven't been offered juicy downloads for "Flash Player" and "Video codecs". Disappointing, when I'm actually LOOKING for those things.
