Quite possible. I do know that disk brakes on bikes crossed over from the motorcycle world to the mountain bike world, and eventually made their way to the road bike world. I, for one, am glad they exist: they are particularly useful in touring bike applications: stronger, not dependant on a clean rim for efficiency, better able to handle heavier loads without overheating the rims and risking cracking said rims...

And, much more efficient than using mere baseball cards on the spokes to slow down. They do sound better, though!

Most topologists would disagree. Wheel rims are part of a distorted torus, not a disc (or, if you consider the spokes to be part of the wheel, then it's a manifold with several dozen holes in it rather than a one-hole torus).

All I can say is that I'd much rathe use two of those toruses over one Taurus any day!

That's the great thing about comparative topology meetings: if you have the one, then you automatically have the other! Saves time and money!

Speaking of driving on ice, there's a possibility that may become necessary for that tomorrow morning or Friday morning, according to my dad. Even though I checked the weather on my phone, the only thing it and whatever channels my dad watched agree upon is that there's a high probability of rain tonight and tomorrow night, though the MSN weather app on my phone says it won't get cold enough for ice either day.

So, just on case, I'm taking a change of clothes and my phone charger. If it's too cold, I'll be staying at my grandmother's house, and might even walk to work from there.

EDIT: Crap... Forgot to put my clothes in the dryer this morning... So much for taking a change of clothes...

ALk,

Just take some hangers along with you and hang the damp clothes up over night. (Most Grandma's houses are by definition somewhat toasty-warm n' stuff...)

btw, this tag line: "Does it ever occur to anyone else that maybe funhouses would not be a good place to live?" made me think of this...

Yeah, but the problem is, I was already at work when I made that edit. I'm off tomorrow night, so I'll just take my time getting home.

Yeah, I figg'rd, but fer next time.

In fact, now that we're at the 'Planning for the Future Stage', you might consider just keeping a 'Go Bag' at her house against future need.
Nothing too personal but a change of clothes or two, maybe a second set of footwear, and min. toiletries, etc.

At around 7pm last night, I heard a couple of somewhat loud explosions that shook my house a little bit. When I was heading out to the back door to take a look outside, my mom came in and said something about a fire.

A trailer not very far from my house was completely engulfed in flames. My first thought was that the explosions had been the fuel tanks of vehicles (there had been another fire on this road where that had happened), followed by the idea that it could have been a meth lab explosion.

My dad had gone over to see if everyone had gotten out okay, and one of the neighbors told him nobody lived there, and that a car had been in the driveway, next to the road, and left just before the first explosion. Once the fire crews had gotten there, my dad pointed out some opened junk mail and an air national guard lanyard sitting on the ground, neither appearing to have been there overnight, as we've had a bit of precipitation.

So it's possible the arsonist was clumsy, or thought he'd be slick and leave stuff there that belonged to someone else. My mom said that because it's the beginning of the year, it's possible whoever started the fire probably did it to collect insurance money.

Damn it, not a week goes by when some female on my friends list posts some misandrist shit to my Facebook news feed, generalizations that aren't true of almost every guy I know (including myself). The reason these girls can't "find" a decent guy might be because they completely ignore the good guys, or say things like what I keep seeing and make them lose interest.

Brother, we don't know how long this has been going on, because we don't have any writing older than about 5200 years.

Yeah, but at the same time, it's like they completely forget I exist, though. And the screwed up part is, I'd pointed out before that going after guys who act/dress a certain way before they get with them is going to result in going through the same kind of crap again and again. The most irritating part about it is that I was considering asking this particular girl out, until she decided that because her ex was a piece of shit and a guy, then I'll be just the same because I'm a guy.

Granted, I never told her I was interested, but that's because I was waiting on her to quit complaining about her ex.

One of the annoying things about life, is that most of us usually don't learn lessons, except via the hard way... repeated bad experiences. Advice from other people simply doesn't sink in very well... if we haven't "been there" enough times, it doesn't resonate and it bounces off us like water off of a duck's back.

As Spider Robinson put it in his novel "Mindkiller" (paraphrasing a bit here):
Life, with its usual politeness and willingness to oblige, was quite willing to hit Norman right between the eyes with the million-pound sh*thammer until he finally got the message.
Hesse's novel "Siddhartha" has a similar theme... none of us can learn another person's lessons for them.
