Personally... i think that Monica was being possessed BY BIA!... that black hair, the dark circles around the eyes, yep, she looks a spittin' image of Bia right there... she's the one who made Monica do the poiting, and at the same time Bia got revenge for Nudge blowing her cover to Phix AND Shelly... and the blame gets put onto both of theirs BEST-EST Friend... Monica... so when Nudge goes to the Library to sulk/recover, etc... and they ask "WTF happened to you?" she says that "M poited her into the lava-lake"... now they're going to go ballistic on Monica (and NOT Bia) and forget Bia for a while... yep, get revenge on Nudge, drive a wedge between Shelly and Monica, and even possibly between Phix-Monica and or Phix-Shelly... ALL at the SAME TIME!!!
