Nope, it is OMD.

Check the last panel.
Yeah, "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark" fits the scene nicely... :D

Hmm I wonder if he meant to use Hades or Pluto, as Charon is not Death?
Charon is not death, Charon is the Ferryman of the River Styx.
Mind you diety creep and name association by mere mortals could be wrong but most of the other mythical beings presented so far match their historical associations.

No, she's completely encased HER shadow. The shadow is inside; The "curtain" is Tsillah.

Just the opposite of RL where "shadow" is the blockage of light. For Tsillah, "shadow" is the blocking of darkness.

Now THAT is mind boggling: block darkness and light appears!

Hades/Pluto can't really be called death. Both of them are the rulers of the underworld. Charon ferries those that have died to the underworld. Much like the more "Modern" versions of Death-The Grim Reaper guides those that have died to the afterlife. The best description of death is not the act of being dead, but instead the journey of ones soul to the afterlife. At least thats how I've always seen it.

I fail to see what Chocolate-coated marshmallow treats can do to help them...
Or nitrous oxide poppers.

Well, they might make them feel better...
*chuckle*

Actually, they're already in an encounter with a being of shadow, daughter of death and grand-daughter of night... Tsillah's family motto could very well be "Night R Us". Poppers for the coppers might make their situation more stressful, not less.

Speaking of whippets, though... I think we might just possibly have a character with whippet heritage in the cast! According to Wikipedia,
A 2007 study identified a myostatin mutation particular to whippets that is significantly associated with their athletic performance. Whippets with a single copy of this mutation are generally very fast; those with two copies have disproportionately large musculature and are known as "bully whippets" although their temperament is not affected by this.
Does this sound like anyone we know, hmmm? Someone we now know who has not one, but two acknowledged lines of nonhumans in her ancestry?

Could it perhaps be three? ;)

And I'm totally digging on the idea of anyone associated with the office of Death having a sense of humor. In most fairly accurate versions of Mythology, Hades/Pluto is usually a bit of a depressed sort. Helping souls cross over is a weighty responsibility, and you have to do what you have to, so you don't go to pieces.

Wednesday: Pugsley, the baby weighs ten pounds, the cannonball weighs twenty pounds. Which will hit the stone walkway first?
Pugsley: I'm still on fractions.
Wednesday: Which do you think?
Pugsley: The cannonball?
Wednesday: Very good. But which one will bounce?
Pugsley: The baby?
Wednesday: There's only one way to find out. Ready? One... two... three.

The concept of the angel of death/grim reaper (and possibly Charon) is that only they have the power to separate the spirit from the body, which is what makes you "dead". Hence being "immortal" is not such a good thing unless you can regenerate like Monica.

So Technically speaking she could be "Death's Daughter". Maybe demons can't hut them, but apparently even vampires fear death. . .

Oh I wouldn't say that to Shelly even if it were true that she had a bit of canine ancestry (possibly due to those naughty sphinxes, many generations back). For one thing, as you suggest, there's no distance from which it would be particularly safe to do so.

More importantly, though, Shelly really does lack the personality traits which might deserve that particular slur. Yes, she has a temper, and has been known to be a bit of a bully at times... but she knows about both of these things, doesn't like them, and seems to be working hard to learn how keep them under control. I can't ever recall seeing her portrayed as indulging in nastiness for the sake of nastiness, or verbally putting down and demeaning other prople for pleasure or power.

She's currently about as safe to be around as a tin full of mercury fulmanate, but her heart is in the right place.

And I really don't think that my wild-ass speculation about whippets is correct. ;) Shelly's physique is well explained by her known (sphinx and titan) ancestry.
