Hmm... Firewall... My first thought?

Reboot...

 :ugeek:

If I recall, the singer for that song is the same lady who voiced the character Hexadecimal. It really was a good fit for the theme.

One wonders at what happens when you hit a firewall in a transport system. :o

My guess is you are either sent to an extremely hostile location, you don’t get sent anywhere, or you are sent to a void or a bomb range or a containment bunker with all of your chemical and nuclear and possibly quark bonds undone. Aka you come out as subatomic goo... which rapidly, chaotically, and violently does it’s level best to rearrange into a dramatically lower energy state, releasing energy best quantified in GIGATONS of TNT.

Or you just come out as pure electromagnetic radiation.

Directly after impact, your flattened form slowly peels away to flutter gently to the floor grid. After touching down, a cannonball with sputtering fuse rolls over and stops on you. Next, you are immediately hit by an anvil. Followed by a large rock. A roadrunner briefly dances on top of the rock, dashing off right before the cannonball explodes. Both anvil and rock shoot skyward, switching positions. Rock lands, anvil strikes rock, splitting it down the middle. You slowly begin to climb up through the split only to be hit by the anvil which moments ago had been teetering on the higher of the two rock pieces. Fade to black.

What happens when you hit the firewall, depends on whether the firewall administrator set the policy for that rule to DROP (you cease to exist), to REJECT (you bounce back to your point of origin, with a "delivery refused" label stapled to your left earlobe) or to ALLOW (you're a student on an authorized field trip and are sent directly to the vending machine... gotta have your can of coffee!).

I'd love to see the filter rules for that sort of firewall... the packet-matching clauses would probably be a treat to read.

Okay the coincidence here is TOO WEIRD.

If you go to www.empowered.com, the comic is PRECISELY at the point in the story where the dire consequences of leaving an open portal with no safety measures to prevent non-friendlies from wandering in about to be brutally spelled out.

And that non-friendly is a fire elemental. With this strip of Wapsi called "firewall."

This is synchronicity of the highest degree. And ironic as hell.

The related comics change with each refreshing of the page. It's a script from Bookworm that focuses on the characters in the strip and comes up with previous appearances/locations.
