Probably. The experience Atsali and Nadette had, when they went back to Mapimi, was pretty clearly of the "stone tape" variety, and it could easily have been interpreted as a haunting. This wouldn't tend to leave snacks behind.

Cross-universe leakage is another. Snacks are definitely a possibility.

Having a bunch of jogah (stone throwers or drum dancers) playing tricks, could easily be seen as a haunting. In this case, snacks might not placate the "ghosts", but a respectful offering of tobacco might easily do so.

Personally i see the term ghost as a catch-all for several different types of phenomenon.

Y'all've gotten me a bit confused.

As for the comic, I think the castle they're intending to visit is another weak spot between universes, like the school.
