No, Daylla. It wasn't a full-fledged coma. It didn't last long enough to be a coma.

It was just a petite-pal seizure.

You weren't put on the bus like Jacob, but you did spend some time at the bus station for a while.

I love how in love Cass is with Shawna, everytime she kisses her, even just on the cheek and Cass is left blushing like crazy and with a big goofy grin on her face, I LOVE IT :D

I still say that's at least partly a smirk at Daylla's reaction

I just did a mini-archive dive to get myself re-acquainted with this set of circumstances, so for those who want to know, the last time we saw Daylla was late September (about half a year ago). About a month later, Shawna and Pickle started moving into each other's orbit, until they lip-sealed the deal in early February. And since then, we have six weeks for hand-holding and pet names.

Yes you can turn around for just a moment and have a whole new situation when you turn back around

And Cass can catche Daylla up to speed, during Lunch, on the roof, with Shawna. I want those three to get along; not for pervy, rule 34, reasons, but because I do not want to see Cass have to make a choice between Shawna, and Daylla. She does not have to.

I am somewhat perplexed at so many people's insistence that there is some cataclysmic rift opening up between Pickle and Daylla here. Lemme sum up what has happened here:
  1. New boy shows up at school, Daylla gloms onto him.
  2. Pickle feels a little lonely without her best pal around. Goes to the park, brooding.
  3. Shawna sees Pickle in park. Acts supportive. (Some blushing on both parts. And some bizarre weeping.)
  4. Later, Kath starts going all dad-jokey. Pickle appalled.
  5. Pickle complains about Kath to Shawna. Shawna sympathizes. Mutual compliments spill out. They nearly confess to each other, them immediately retract implied confessions. (Much blushing on both parts.)
  6. Later, Pickle gets maudlin during club activities. Scar and Shawna implement hug therapy. Pickle bolts.
  7. Scar consults her mental Pickle Operations Handbook, diagnoses a romantic attachment to Shawna, and runs after Pickle to reboot Pickle's exception handler.
  8. Scar catches up to Pickle, uses surprise, and gets Pickle to blurt out a confession. Shawna, wandering up, overhears this, panics, and chooses the flight response.
  9. Pickle also chooses a flight response, and in their attempts to run away from each other, Pickle and Shawna literally run into each other. The author feints toward further delay, before having the characters clinch and kiss.
  10. Pickle and Shawna skip out on club for a gratuitous but welcome Tina Moment where Shawna is flabbergasted, even though she lived in a supernatural world full of inexplicable things.
  11. Pin-ups occur.
  12. Pickle lets Kath and Shawna know that Pickle and Shawna are now a couple, presumably to give them time to think of clever portmanteaux. (Castawna? Shawtela? More research needed.)
  13. Shawna discovers that being indirect doesn't work on a Gilchrist, and invites herself over to Pickle's house for Spring Break. No indications of Pickle Sandwiches being made.
  14. Daylla finally comes up for air after diving into her boy-toy for however long, and reconnects with Pickle with a mock-dramatic apology. Pickle responds with the appropriate level of friendly snark.
  15. Shawna shows up, lays a PDA on Pickle, and then flits off, leaving Daylla gobsmacked.
No where in this narrative could I find any evidence of (1) Daylla's jealous possession of Pickle, (2) Pickle's discontent with Daylla (beyond standard Pickle broodiness, which has been a staple of Pickle since the first time skip), or (3) any hint of any tension or competition between Daylla and Shawna.

Who knows where future strips might go, but for now, there isn't really any groundwork laid for either a triangle or a threesome. Daylla is Pickle's long-time best friend. Shawna is Pickle's new GF. And that's it, full stop.

'What Ziggy said'... and Thor too- But:

There had been some foreshadowing of trouble for a teenage-ish, youngish adult Castela based on Paul's work from some time back.

There is also the 'Other Shoe' that awaits to be dropped, any time now.

There is no promise that Castela will turn into a rage-monster over the slings & arrows of outrageous fortunes yet to be, but it might be that a heartbreak might touch off something nonetheless...

Yes, but that was real-time years ago. Long enough for him to change his mind, either partially or fully on the path he wants Pickle to take. What an author thinks is a good idea at one point can easily become a complete no-go after the writing is well underway, and the author has seen their creation curve away from the direction they thought it was going. This is especially true in serial works like a webcomic, where a character arc may drift incrementally in a direction, and by the time the author realizes it, they have a choice to either let the original idea go and ride the arc to wherever the natural endpoint winds up being, or to grab the reins tight and make a course correction that might seem to be too sharp or abrupt and lose readership.

I will believe in Cigar-Smoking Rage Pickle when, and only when, it happens canonically in-strip, rather than just in pin-up possibility. In the decades that I have been following webcomics, I have seen far too many set-ups with no follow-through and too much Early Installment Weirdness and Characterization Marches On to believe that any webcomics predictions will come true, no matter how serious about them the author was at the time. This is not an impugning of webcomic authors. To the contrary, this is a sign that over time an author matures and grows and acquires a greater breadth and depth of scope and experience and realizes what they thought was a good idea when they were X years younger could be done in a better way.

Of course, some authors are pig-headed enough to railroad a series to whatever end they had in mind when they started, no matter what, but those series usually do not feel very organic and are not as pleasant to read.

Granted. And what I described is very far into the future, most likely any way.

Heck, We'll have a whole new cast of characters by then... ;)

A related point: Daylla didn't seem at all threatened by the fact that Pickle was obviously smitten by Hiroshi (and vice versa). More amused by it, and frustrated by Pickle's refusal to admit it, and quite pleased to be able to prank Castela with the consequences.

What's more: Daylla has just 'fessed up to having temporarily bailed out on her friendship with Castela, as a result of the fascination of her own new relationship-of-some-nature with Mohan.

So, she's not really in a great position to be jealous, nor has she shown an inclination of that sort in the past. She just seems surprised, by what took place when her eyes were elsewhere.
