I'm starting to see why she feels right at home with the potentially murderously violent sphinx and the fusion-blasting plant girl.

I'm loving Luci more and more with each passing day! :D

I'm impressed at the level of control Luci displayed after an attempted murder on her person. But then when I got hit in the head with the baseball bat I had a hard time just reaining standing. I really didn't have any time to formulate a retaliation before my assailant ran screaming from the building. Something about not being human or some such. This was after they had to use an air chisel to perform oral surgery because the access wound would heal closed before the orthodontist had time to attach the hook to the wayward cuspid a few days later.

Yes I now realize I was basically a super back then. I still am, but I'm almost 60 now and have 3 totalled motor vehicles in my kill tally. That causes a lot of soft tissue injury, I mean when they fixed my knee after the third time I was hit my cruciate ligaments were basically just overlapping scar tissue from all the times they had been torn.

But yeah, beating swear words in the wall instead of the head of th guy who tried to kill her shows a great deal of restraint on Luci's part, good for her.

Actually, over at the comic, Paul says this wasn't what sent her to juvie - it was a later incident.

I've pointed out how tiny Luci is. This made her a target. She didn't "just happen" to have that hammer. She carried a hammer. In school. And, pushing someone down some stairs isn't just bullying, it's attempted murder.

I'm lucky, in that I've never been small. I only had that first few months of high school, where the older kids could physically intimidate me, and they really didn't. But, imagine living your life, surrounded by people that tower over you. People that feel they can kill you, with no consequences.

Bullies who like to inflict physical harm like this only understand that same language in return. Older kids in elementary school liked to come after for that reason, the scrawny boy with glasses who lacked the muscle mass or the experience fighting made me a prime target until the da one of them tried to push me around in the school yard during winter and I pushed him away onto a patch of ice where he slipped and fell down. It was only a few days later I learned that he had broken his collar bone by pure random chance, but let me tell you, NOBODY will ever try to bully you again once you've legitimately earned the nickname Bonesnapper.

I see similarities between Luci and Castela, and their tempers. Except so far Castela has shown restraint against physically attacking people (except for Fae), and Luci initially didn't. This should give Castela hope; if Luci can learn how to keep such a tight rein on herself that she doesn't do that anymore, so can Cas.

At least, I *assume* Luci has herself under control. I don't think we've ever seen her attacked, and what her reaction was.

Good.

This isn't a case of "Give a hysteric a hammer, and (whatever), teach them to make hammers and..." Luci's been to where Castela IS. As my mother often said of conditionally unhinged people: "No flywheel." Castela needs one and Luci's the one to teach her how to get one.
