Who's who here?
The Schlemiel is the waiter who spills the hot soup.

The Schlimazel is the guy who trips the schlemiel.

And the Schnook is the guy the soup lands on.

You forgot about the people who smoke the pot...

Debilitating jet lag?

Paralyzing hand cramps from short-term overuse while sketching?

Hoarse, from singing too many choruses of the famous 'con filksong "What Shall We Do With The Hotel Manager?"

I happened to purely coincidentally be in Shaumberg for Windycon once, oh, must have been 1990 or so. I was in a hotel a couple miles away, in the middle of a two-week software-training session. Didn't find out the con was going on until Saturday evening, and there was so little going on Sunday that they didn't even have Sunday memberships for sale. As a result they had to make an on-the-spot decision that non-members could visit the dealer's room on Sunday, and that's all I got to do. (It's extremely likely that the con has gotten bigger since then.)

The surprising thing that happened in this brief visit to Windycon: Mercedes Lackey was there, and remembered and commented on something I had said to her a couple years earlier at Norwescon. Considering that I'm pretty much a random stranger...

We spent this weekend at Tuscon. It's a deliberately-small con, membership officially capped at 500; our pre-registration got lost somehow (and I can't find record that I was ever charged for it) but late Friday morning we were able to register with badge numbers under 250. Still, there was stuff going on from about 11:00 Friday to 4 PM Sunday, and the panel schedule kept all available meeting room busy until midnight both Friday and Saturday - in fact I attended writing panels starting at midnight both nights. Appropriately, the past panel I went to, starting 2 PM Sunday, was titled "Finish it!"
