She's cute as a foxgirl...

Hmmm. Mom knows something.

Those three words were exactly my reaction. Except, I capitalized them when I first said them to myself. :)

Foxes are considered spirit animals, of course...

I'm sensing a family talent about to be revealed here.

Mom knows something. Scarlet's about to learn it, too.

Sounds like a family talent, probably one that doesn't descend on everyone, which is why Scarlet doesn't already know.

Though it's also possible that Scarlet never connected the pieces of information that should have already told her.

As was noted Foxes are reputed to be spiritually sensitive, and it might be passed on to Vulpine paras. And I noticed Scarlet's Mom wasn't tagged. This may be something Scarlet has to work out for herself (with Pablo's help of course).

"Honey, I need to break this to you... We're part house cat. House cats can... see things sometimes."

Actually, foxes are Canidae vulpini... canine, not feline.

Simple answer: Their family is haunted. Now off to bed with you, darling! Sleep tight!

And that is just what is scaring Scarlet. Talk about having a skeleton in your family tree!

"Dear, it's time you knew the truth. We aren't vulpines. We're miacids. When you've heard your grandfather and me talk about the Old Country... we really meant the old country."

I had a similar experience in an large old Greek Revival house in which I lived. My wife at the time told me she had heard my voice on a couple of occasions when I wasn't there. She was quite startled to see me drive up after the fact on one of those occasions. I didn't think much of it until it happened to me. I got up to go to the bathroom one night and, as I was returning to the bedroom, I heard her talking to one of our dogs. When I got back the dogs were in their usual place and all was well. She was awake and I mentioned something about what she said to the dogs. Thing is, she swore she had not said anything and that she had been awake the whole time I was gone, yet she didn't hear anything. After that the voices happened a few more times. I dubbed them to be "Mockelgangers." Never carried on any sort of conversation with them however. My wife passed away and I no longer live there, but I still have dreams about that to this day. Though my dreams have embellished the incidents quite a bit in more recent years with actual ghost sightings and an evil presence in a large upstairs room which never existed in the actual house.
