Scarlet is spooked and needs comforting.

And I wonder why she's so shaken up? Is it just a generalized fear of ghosts, or the unknown and uncanny, or is it something in particular in her past or upbringing which makes this situation so threatening to her?

I was fishing around to say something clever about Timothy's voice being filtered, but she's seeking solace, not teasing. Whatever it was, she's deeply shaken by it.

i am getting the impression this is not the first time this has happened to her.

If she knows Timothy's voice, and that was it, it therefore follows that the ghost was Timothy.

That that makes no sense, and is profoundly ominous, may be the cause of the tears.

Of course, we're assuming that this was a ghost, and not something else altogether.

And when she heard him, did she hear his voice with her eardrums and that whole system, or did she "hear" him in her mind? If the latter, then he might not "speak" with any particular voice, and her mind just assigns a voice to him.

Hmmm . . . might Mervin be future-Timmy when he learns to astral-travel in time?
