Diving In Feet First 2017-06-02

Post by FreeFlier »

Well, Digit is a jumping spider . . .

The next question is: Is she still on the island?

And where are Atsali and Nadette?

A fairy-transformed humanized spider and a fairy-miniaturized terrier both jump off a cliff/diving platform at the same time. Assuming the spider now weighs as much as a human, and the terrier weighs as much as a spider, which one will hit the water first? :ugeek:

Are they both in a vacuum? Can we assume a perfectly spherical terrier?

The one which weighs the same as a duck.

(We have yet to select the duck which is to be used as a reference standard. The Committee is deadlocked over the issue of whether it should be an Imperial or metric duck.)

Assuming they are in atmosphere (which makes breathing somewhat easier), the surface-to-mass ratio makes it extremely likely that the terrier's terminal velocity is lower. So if they are jumping from enough height for that to matter (which I'm guessing would be just a couple yards max), the humanized spider will hit the water first.

That MIGHT not be the case if the humanized spider does a belly-flop (bad idea from height of more than a foot or two) while spread-eagled, and the terrier deliberately tries to streamline itself.

How about a perfectly spherical terrier of uniform density in a perfectly spherical vacuum of uniform density?

I don't think Dyson, Oreck, Kirby or even Hoover make a unit that large.

Dyson makes round ones, though.

Aside from the grey skin she's still rather cute. I could get used to it and Digit being around, but it would be strange for a while. How old did Pablo say she was, again?

And speaking of old Dietzel is getting a little long in the tooth for a dog, isn't he? I mean he was in one of the earliest comics http://wapsisquare.com/comic/10012001/ and bull terriers are not known for having particularly long lives. That one was 10 strips after the first comic of the site.

I know Digit is supposed to be jumping into the water but she looked to me as if she was lying down.

He said that, overall, she's the equivalent of twenty years old, but she's attending high school because she hasn't been socialised as much as a human teen ager.

I think will realize from that and later ones, that he is NOT a normal dog... he can look for bottled water in the fridge, and open it (not always easy for some.. :/), and play games, and order pizza on the phone!! :) :)

I wonder if, in the Wapsiverse, that is being around the supernatural enough can turn you into one of the supernatural.

If this is the case, then it is no surprise that after living with Dietzel so long, Monica turned into the Jaguar Girl.

That's an excellent point! She was also exposed to Shelly for years, and (as we now know) Shelly-in-the-main-Wapsi-timeline has been a paranormal since birth (Sphinx/titan/human hybrid).

It's also possible that there's a sort of feedback effect. Since Monica had already been pushed in the direction of paranormality by her "grandmother" (Mahahuel's image, projected from the Demon Dimension), this might have awakened paranormality in Dietzel, which then fed back to Monica, and ...

I think Monica is the Tellurian L2, the result of a long breeding program.
