Nah. The "Jaws" theme.
Proof Positive the world is not flat: If it were, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

Abbie does look a tad worried, doesn't she?
You know that light at the end of the tunnel?
Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.

Considering where they are, that would certainly more appropriate than this...AnotherFairportfan wrote:Nah. The "Jaws" theme.

I've seen enough anime to know that something is coming . . . but I don't know if it's the gigantic figure that blocks out the sun and heralds the apocalypse, or a heartfelt True Confession(TM).

What... gigantic apocalyptic figures that blot out the sun don't have the right to a good heartfelt confession?FreeFlier wrote:I've seen enough anime to know that something is coming . . . but I don't know if it's the gigantic figure that blocks out the sun and heralds the apocalypse, or a heartfelt True Confession(TM).

Granted, they may need to have a really huge chapel custom-built for the purpose, but nevertheless... avatars of worldwide destruction have emotional and spiritual needs, too!

I wasn't going to go here but you guys are dredging up... Legend of the Overfiend, on Laserdisk.
Re: No Idea 2017-05-01
Didn't know that was an anime meme.Dave wrote:What... gigantic apocalyptic figures that blot out the sun don't have the right to a good heartfelt confession? . . .FreeFlier wrote:I've seen enough anime to know that something is coming . . . but I don't know if it's the gigantic figure that blocks out the sun and heralds the apocalypse, or a heartfelt True Confession(TM).

Abbie claims not to have watched anime, or know anybody who does? In THAT school? With THAT population of nerds?
I am dubious.

I call complete and total bullcrap on that one. As proof i offer the series of comics when Pickle and company were to the scifi con. Hard to be able to know who everyone was without having watched any anime.TazManiac wrote:Yeah, there ought to be a squinty 'Spock Eyebrow' called on that one...eee wrote:Abbie claims not to have watched anime, or know anybody who does? Dear, don’t bore him with trivia or burden him with your past mistakes. The happiest way to deal with a man is never to tell him anything he does not need to know. L. Long

Hmmm...

Forgive my relative ignorance of the genre boundaries: does MLP qualify as anime? Or is the "anime" strictly limited to referring to manga-based or manga-related animation with Japanese roots?

Castela and her friends might not spend much time with Abbie and her gang; at their ages, a difference in age of six years or so is a rather major gulf. So Abbie might not really know that much about what the younger herd she is tangentially acquainted with is interested in.oldmanmickey wrote:I call complete and total bullcrap on that one. On one hand 'it's just a comic', on the other hand 'stuff aught to be consistent' & on the gripping hand; you cant just blow stuff past us. Not Us you cant...

Perhaps she knows a few dozen people who watch anime but isn't aware that they watch anime?eee wrote:Abbie claims not to have watched anime, or know anybody who does? In THAT school? With THAT population of nerds?

Pretty sure most American schools frown on students being on the roof (save the astronomy club).
"Occam's razor is a fine thing, but the universe is a Rube-Goldberg machine."
Re: No Idea 2017-05-01
It depends on the school, the students and the roof . . . note the (at least) eight-foot high cyclone fence around the edge, which argues for the roof being designed for "public" access.
I'd want the top edge of the fence curled inwards, though that would tend to create a prison feeling, and is of limited utility when some students can fly.

On the other hand, when some students fly and some poit, trying to prevent roof access is pretty much futile.FreeFlier wrote:It depends on the school, the students and the roof . . . note the (at least) eight-foot high cyclone fence around the edge, which argues for the roof being designed for "public" access.

I figure the fence is mostly to stop basketballs, frisbees and the like from descending upon the (presumably) unaware normal population.
