Precisely. And, as she's sort of one of Digit's "parents" by dint of her role in the borken-talisman transformation, the young now-lady might possibly decide to take her name :)

(EDIT: meant to agree that Calista is a Foxglove... misread "Castela" as "Calista". I blame Society for my error. That, or cosmic rays.)

OK on the pedipalp/ponytail on the side of her head, if it just hangs there it could be disguised as a ponytail. Even if it is motile but like our arms and hands, still good. If it responds autonomously to emotional states then Digit is going to have problems blending in with the human world.

As a writer of bad fiction I can see any of these as fertile grounds for story arcs.

But then as a character in a story I have been exceedingly dense at times... (I really REALLY need to have a chat with my writer. (is this how Deadpool feels?))

I know it came up as a name somewhere.

Castela, no. Calista, yes.

(I expected confusion over those two names when we first saw Calista named.)

Just wait until some mad scientist decides to graft those two gals together.

Calista's is.

The two names are easy to confuse, though i wouldn't say the girls are.

Let's get into Digit-al

And, unfortunately, she's up against her heritage again. Her peoples' magic is notoriously unreliable and fickle... plenty of stories out there about not accepting fairy gold in payment (it will turn back into leaves or pebbles at dawn or at the touch of cold iron). Gifts that they may grant have a reputation for having unexpected side effects, or rebounding in nasty ways. They're powerful, but there's something about their Power which just doesn't interact well with mortals, even on the rare occasion that they're genuinely trying to be kind to us.

Paying the Pun Vault with a pun is recursive and can get you locked in an endless loop.

Shoulderdog!
Yes, but... can she really shoulder the responsibility of having one?

Drops an anatomy book in the pun jar.

Shoulderdog!

I'd sing it to the tune of the "Underdog" theme, but I'm really tired this evening and I can't seem to work out any decent cringe-inducing parody lyrics.
You, Sir, should be careful what you say around "young, impressionable minds"... *

I think that the Filk virus operates very much like the S.R.M.D.**: once it grabs you, there's no getting rid of it until it's run its course***...

Therefore:

There's no need to fear! Shoulderdog is here!

When patrons' books just disappear
and chaos its ugly head rears
librarians cower in fear
the cry goes up both far and near
for Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog!

Speedy reading, softest whisper
Dewey Dec(i)mal is no stranger
to Shoulderdog. Shoulderdog!

When paranormal headlines read
of arachnid who changed her breed
scared and worried, in dire need
to right this wrong with blinding speed
goes Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog!

Speed of lightning, tiny barker
his small nose rubs will comfort her
Shoulderdog. Shoulderdog! Shoulderdog! ****

* I am by no stretch of the imagination considered young, nowadays, nor have I been impressionable since my tender youth... but saying it this way doesn't quite have the same Je ne sais quoi to it...

** If you have never heard of Science Related Memetic Disorder, you owe it to yourself to go over and read A Miracle of Science...

*** [Pedant]Notice the proper use of "it's" and "its" in that sentence...[/Pedant]

**** Original lyrics can be found here, for comparison, along with sound files for your listening pleasure

Bravo, sir! You are hereby awarded the appropriate medal of honor - a pin in the shape of Shoogar's filk-singer flute.

Yes, I do realize that the filking virus (and others like it) is quite communicable to the genetically susceptible... but in a gang like this it's a good bet everyone present has already been exposed many times. They've either had the bug or they're immune (poor sods). ;)

(and re SRMD: it's in all of us, it's inevitable. "Language is a virus from outer space.")

The problem is that there are different strains . . . are you immune to this particular strain?

Sometimes I have to strain pretty hard to make a filk have the right meter.

Did you know that the pun jar has the ability to enlarge its opening by several meters at once, to allow it to consume its hapless prey? Maybe you should meet her with some adequate offering, before she comes after you... ;)
