I figure that the Siren race must be the product of at least 30,000 years of extremely advanced generic engineering by some race of demigods somewhere.
Wisenheimer demigods, to be specific.
It must have taken a lot of very serious generic and psychological R&D to develop a being as completely and endearingly clueless as Atsali has shown herself to be. Couldn't possibly happen by accident. It's sadistically impossible.

Those few square inches are going to be expen$ive . . .
Of course, in Atsali's case they're probably nanotube or some other superstrong material . . .

Either that, or his auto-correct is working overtime... (See my previous post.)Opus the Poet wrote:The pun vault is tapping something that resembles a foot...Dave wrote: It's sadistically impossible.

And the thought of seeing her in that dress makes me smile for some unknown reason. I have noticed though that the less material involved in a dress or bikini the more money it costs.

I wish I could find the WW2 era cartoon of a burlesque house dress rehearsal. The director and the theater owner are comparing two official letters. One was from the rationing board, complaining about the extravagant costumes, the other was from the censor complaining about the tiny costumes.
It's going to be like that!

That's sorta what happened. I'm using an Android tablet, and its letter-swipe text entry and vocabulary-based working correction system is prone to make some interesting boo-boos. I just didn't catch the fact that it had chosen generic when I had intended to enter genetic. (It just did it again, of course... it listed genetic as an alternative choice).lake_wrangler wrote:Either that, or his auto-correct is working overtime... So, No Pun Intended for that one. Sadistically impossible was deliberate, though.
(Dave places a fictional bikini, lovingly woven out of whole cloth, into the Pun Jar)
As old joke goes: when the busty young women complained about the high price of the bikini and pointed out that the designer had used very little fabric, the salesman said "Yes, but you must understand that you're paying for the restraint."oldmanmickey wrote:And the thought of seeing her in that dress makes me smile for some unknown reason. I wonder if/when all of this stuff will sink in for Atsali or if she'll remain as clueless as Mikuru Asahini's adult self (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya).

Based on prior history, Atsali will have her epiphany when she can blurt it out in public and embarrass Nadette.

You've read that one, too? I thought it was one of the funniest things I read since Asimov's paper "The Endochronic Properties of Resublimated Thiotimoline”. One was geek humor, the other was classic Asimov. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThiotimolineAnotherFairportfan wrote:"A Stress Analysis of a Strapless Evening Gown"Sgt. It's a 1948 short story that later got expanded. My favorite was the chain reaction that dissolved 24 hours before the initial release of water into the device.
