Hmm, seems pretty cut and dried.

My first family I raised two daughters. This time around I am raising two sons.

There is no difference- they both did this.

If I'm lucky, the youngest blows the coop in a little over three years. I will probably retire by that time if not sooner, certainly no later than August of 2020.

Yep . . . my sister and I did it too.

A few times anyway . . . it didn't work very well because mom was watching for it because her sister had done it too.

"Hey, kid, it's time for another fun episode of Plausible Misinterpretation!"

Poor Kath... on a brighter note, she's looking better than ever these days!

On the other hand...

Assuming Pickle has an earlier bedtime than Atsali,
the cartoon or whatever should be watched live
and the science show DVRed with the added bonus
of pausing and rewinding it while making notes.

I wanna go up to Kath and show her what people from the outside see in her kids. I'd say she's among the best moms ever. Her kids are troublesome, but far less so than would be expected from them. They are really quite kind, they actually have concern for other being's feelings, and both are very smart... Sure they have their failings, but Atsali is actively trying to overcome her troubles with social... Stuff... and Castela is still so young her failings (not great at sharing, disregard for privacy, etc.) are probably just developmental snafus that will iron themselves out with time and love.

I had this problem with my younger brother back in the pre-VCR days. I wanted to watch a smart, engaging science-fiction program, he wanted to watch some escapist nostalgia drivel called "Happy Days" and we got to watch on alternating weeks, only my program kept getting pre-empted on the weeks when I had the TV until it got canceled. I think I got to watch 2 or 3 of the 13 episodes they made of that sci-fi program "Planet of the Apes- the Series" when it went into summer re-runs because I never got to watch more than 1 in first run.

Whenever my half-sister wanted to watch some idiotic, childish cartoon, I just went up to my room and read a book or played with Legos.

(Just for the sake of context, she is older than I am)

I had similar issues. I, and my younger brother Chris, wanted to watch Star Trek (the original, in first run). Youngest brother Join wanted to watch Gilligan's Island (shudder). Mom insisted that we alternate weeks, 1:1, so Chris and I missed a lot of good episodes.

Fortunately, my brother (18 mo. older than I) and I had tastes so similar that we both watched the same thing 99% of the time. Now my sister, (7 years younger than I) could skew the demographic wildly. The only joy I found in 'The Dukes of Hazard' was teasing her about liking it...

Agreed. Those two, in one household, would be a handful for any parent... great kids, but they're both exceptional and they're going through a very usual period of inter-age sibling friction.

All that self-criticism about "worst mother ever"? That's just the booze talking! :D  (nice one, Paul!)

No - Katherine, you're not a bad mother - if you were a bad mother, they'd be physically fighting about it.

AH!, but the REAL question is if Katherine is going to call her on it?... i know that "i'd" be in the TV room with "That LOOK" until Pickle fessed up about lying... and then, BECAUSE she lied, she WOULDN'T get to watch her program that week...

My brother (4 years older) and I had to alternate weeks with my sister (6 years younger)... we would watch Goldorak, while she wanted to watch Candy...

As an only child, I never was able to lie to a sibling about what Mom said was okay (or not)...but I definitely was ballsy enough to lie to one parent about what the other parent had said. I think I only did that two or three times because once they discovered the lie, I was punished for it (I have very strong memories of my Spanking Spoon for a reason...and it's not because I was spanked with it much. Psychological punishment methods FTW). I'm sure Kath will address this situation with the correct amount of severity and grace...but going for the wine first is definitely understandable (and a variation on what I'd do in her place).

Sounds like the original Battlestar Galactica first episode interrupted halfway through for the signing of the Camp David Accords, talk about an angry bunch of sailors :x , and then pre-empted at least every other week for some reason or another (mainly football games running long) till I transferred out.

I've got an obvious post to make, but it'd be inviting Pablo to completely mess up a great piece of fan fiction...
