Has anyone complimented Paul's art lately? I don't think anyone has for a while.

I especially like the posing he's done today. Panel 1 and 3 are relaxed and casual, and panel 2 is playful and loving.

Most paras have, as Bud once put it, teeth that can take down a Cape buffalo. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but the point still stands: paras have fangs. They are one of the first hints that someone isn't strictly human. When glamour begins to fade or is overpowered, the fangs are usually the fist to show, followed by, in the case of Monica, Shelly, and Phix (and possibly Brandi?), those weird cat markings on the side of their noses.

Speaking from a scientific standpoint, I'm not sure what this means as far as how all of these different para species are related. Is it a massive case of convergent evolution or are the fangs a holdover from some common ancestor?

Speaking from the viewpkint of a storyteller... It's just a way for Paul to say "hey! Pay attention, this one is a wierdo!"

Oh, that's an easy one. Both. Sometimes in very small groups of animals.

For example, nearly all Carnivora - a group that includes a large fraction of carnivorous mammals - have substantial fangs, even the ones that aren't actually carnivores. That really looks like shared ancestry.

But so do hippopotami, elephants, baboons, and crocodiles. At least the last of those, and probably the other three, represent convergent evolution.

And then when you go to extremes, such as saber-toothed cats. There have been SEVERAL species of saber-toothed cats, and they are NOT descended from each other. The most recent was in North America. The current cat with the longest fangs relative to its body size is Borneo's Sunda clouded leopard; with body weight running as high as fifty-seven pounds, it has two-inch fangs. Tigers, which can weigh 850 pounds, occasionally manage 3 inches. The different species of saber-tooth cat are clearly convergent evolution, beyond the point where they have fangs because of their shared ancestry with bears, ferrets, and chihuahuas.

Now translating that to the paranormal world, I doubt that Mr. Meadows and Phix have that recent a common ancestor. And of course the vampires' fangs are neither convergent evolution nor common ancestor.

Sure they all have common ancestors. Most can be traced back to the various gods of the different beliefs. Most mythological beings have overlap, as in same thing different names. So an argument could be made for a common ancestor for all of them.

Some characters' fangs seem to be permanently in evidence - Tina and the GGs - and some seem to come and go.
Proof Positive the world is not flat: If it were, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

Everybody is focused on fangs while the punchline is about what did Atsali actually kiss... and it seems SHE'S not telling...

Forehead, right?
Whoever coined the phrase "more fun than a barrel of monkeys" obviously never spent an afternoon cramming the little buggers into one.

It is on record that when Tina was in the hospital (or at the dentist? I forget), the surgeon doing reconstruction (after the accident, if I recall) was handed the wrong dental record, and he ended up reconstructing the dentition based on a goth girl who wanted/had fangs... Was Tina telling the truth, or pulling the leg of whoever she was talking to? I have no idea.

The GGs, on the other hand, may well have been engineered that way...
